From The Principal
I am often very inspired by students and their desire to make the world a better place. Almost daily I meet students who inspire me to greater heights. This again happened today as a small group of us journeyed into Mackay to celebrate the Annual NAIDOC school mass with those from our sister schools. With the theme, FOR OUR ELDERS, we gathered, were inspired and were connected to Country. Right at the beginning we were connected to those around us. Through stories told by Elders (whether indigenous or not) from our community we need to embrace who we are and be proud of who we are and continue to make our world and relationships better.
Jesus said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
During the homily, Fr Andrew reminded us to be gifts to each other and to ensure that, just as the world needs looking after, so too do we. In doing so we then share our light with others and seek to better the world.
What have you been doing to make the world a better place?
FAREWELL | Today we bid adieu to Mrs Kristy Dickens. Kristy joined the team at St Anne’s in January of 2020 and has been working towards a new career goal. Now, after many years of dedicated study she has landed her ideal position.
Kristy, we thank you so much for all you have done for our small community; your sense of justice, hardwork and dedication has been noted by many and appreciated by all. Kristy, we wish you nothing but the best as you embrace new horizons. Continue to be that shining light that comes so naturally to you. Please stay in touch.

CONGRATULATIONS | Congratulations is extended to Mrs Shona Gibson who has been appointed Acting APC (Assistant Principal - Curriculum) for the duration of 2023.
Many of you know Mrs Gibson and I know you will join with me in congratulating her. When firm details have been made around release for Shona from class we will advise parents.
Again, congratulations Shona, we look forward to working with you in this capacity and know that you will bring tremendous value and energy to our school and our endeavours.

LAUDATO SI - CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME
The Laudato Si is a letter from Pope Francis to everyone on the planet urging all of us to protect the earth; our common home. The earth is God's gift to us, full of beauty and wonder, where the fruits of the earth belong to everyone.
Caring for our common home is both a corporal and spiritual work of Mercy. At St. Anne's we follow the teachings of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy as they were our School's founders almost 100 years ago. Year 4 students, Mrs Gill, Mrs Cox and Mrs Cameron have been busy caring for our common home here at school.
"Year 4 noticed that the garden bed next to Lunchbox Club was empty and the soil was rock hard. So, after some discussions, we decided to make it a succulent garden, as it needs minimal water and the plants would love the full sun location. We used the plants that the Musson and Cox families had donated to us, to create this new space.
We started with newspaper and new soil. We are now looking to source pebbles as mulch for the succulents to grow through."

Mackay Show Displays
St Anne's year one class had a display at the Mackay show of their animal habitats, that they worked hard on in class, and they received 3rd place in the school’s exhibit section. The president of the Mackay Show also chose them as president’s choice for the wonderful use of natural items like bark and sticks etc. A huge congratulations to all year one students.
Also, from the year 5 class we had a display of some miner's huts by Mason, Montana, Dustin and Harry. Harry also had a collage that we entered - Harry received highly commended for the collage and was one of 6 encouragement awards chosen by MSA staff. Congratulations to those year 5 students.
The Borg family also entered the pavilion exhibits again this year and each received awards for their efforts across the craft and Lego sections. Congratulations Jack, Ben and Chris.

Challenge Cup
Football
What do you get when you combine footy, friends, and fun?
Great memories formed at Challenge Cup!
Students from St Anne’s and MacKillop travelled to Yeppoon for three days of
action packed rugby league. The boys played a total of seven games of footy and still had energy to burn at the beach in the afternoons… kicking the footy of course!
The carnival consisted of players from all over the Rockhampton Diocese with a total of twenty-four football teams in the carnival. Below are the results from our games:
St Patrick’s Emerald vs St Anne’s Mackillop - 38 - 6
St Joseph’s Wandal vs St Anne’s/Mackillop - 34 - 6
St John’s/St Brendan’s vs St Anne’s/Mackillop - 32-0
St Anne’s/Mackillop vs St Joseph’s Clermont - 12 - 26
St John’s Gladstone vs St Anne’s/Mackillop - 52 - 0
St Anne’s/Mackillop vs St Mary’s/St Joseph’s Bundy - 18-20
St Anne’s/Mackillop vs St Therese's /St Joseph’s Biloela - 44-12
The players were excited to finish the last game with a win, although the real winner of the carnival was memories, teamwork and football!
A huge thank you to:
- all players, your behaviour was exceptional during the carnival. I am so proud of you all.
- Sacred Heart for providing us with four extra teammates/players
- Mr Gibson for coaching and Mr Warne for assisting with coaching/water, Mr Fitzpatrick for assisting with school training sessions
- And to all the families for travelling to Yeppoon, we appreciate you. The boys had a great time and created lifelong memories.
Thanks for a fantastic carnival 😊
Shona Gibson

Netball
St. Anne's Netballers played some tough pool games in the Catholic Schools' Challenge Cup, that put spectators on the edge of their seats, over Wednesday to Friday last week in Yeppoon. The players showed teamwork, grit and tremendous growth. They truly played with the values of St. Anne's, with kindness towards other players and respect for their teammates and coach. St. Anne's won their semi final in division 8 and then played for the 'Vase' in the final, taking home a victory and a trophy to match!
Well done St. Anne's netballers for your efforts. Thank you to families who took time out of their schedules to give your child this great experience.
