From The Principal
Children are very precious– they are natural, resilient, far sighted, enthusiastic, loving, peaceful, forgiving, hopeful, joyful, want to experience life to the fullest, trusting…. They are the future of our nation! I love being a parent and a teacher. Children are the only reason that I am now an educator, and are the only reason I was ever interested in teaching. Sure, it is a very very difficult vocation and is becoming increasing more difficult as the years roll on. But I love being a teacher and I love learning from children – they have much to teach us grown-ups. At the end of each day I try to snatch 10 minutes where I sit and ponder over the day and its happenings. I look for God in that day; I look to ensure that the Jesus in me did meet the Jesus in others. This is important for me as often I can get caught up in just living. Just as I believe we are what we eat, I also believe that children (and adults!) are what they live.
If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn,
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight,
If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy,
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty,
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence,
If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate others,
If children live with fairness, they learn justice,
If children live with security, they learn to have faith,
If children live with acceptance and friendship,
They learn to find love in the world.
“So Jesus called a child, had him stand in front of him and said, “Unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. The greatest in the Kingdom of heaven is the one who humbles and becomes like this child. And whoever welcomes in my name one such as this child, welcomes me!” (Matthew 18:2-5)
Indeed, children are very precious! What have you learnt from a child lately? What have you taught a child through your actions? Being a parent is no easy task – but rejoice in knowing that you are doing your best.

UNIFORM POLICY REMINDERS | As a new school term begins, students need a timely reminder of the uniform expectations at St. Anne’s. We encourage parents to support us by sending their children to school in the correct attire.
Long hair - (shirt collar length or longer) on boys and girls is to be tied back for hygienic and safety reasons.
Hair accessories – royal, navy blue, white or gold (the colour in the uniform) only – hair scrunchies, ribbons and headbands - nothing that is out of the ordinary for school wear - the simpler the better e.g. Alice Bands; glittery hair accessories are not acceptable.
Watches - allowed for all levels – it is preferred that these are analogue NOT digital as children often have trouble reading analogue times; these watches need to be without sounds and alarms. Watches which allow online access are not permitted.
Chains - are allowed if a small religious medal is worn on it.
Rings - are a dangerous item in a school situation; we do not allow them to be worn.
Bracelets - are not permitted.
Earrings - are to be studs or simple plain sleepers. People who wear sleepers may be required to tape them during certain activities.
IT WILL START GETTING COLD | With the change in weather patterns changing it is vital that the students are wearing the correct winter uniform. The correct uniform can be purchased via the school. Please be forward thinking and organise this as soon as possible.
ENERGY DRINKS AT SCHOOL | Recently, there has been a lot of media coverage about energy drinks, and we wanted to reiterate that students shouldn’t have energy drinks, such as Prime, Mother, Red Bull etc, at school. Energy drinks are not appropriate for primary school students due to their high caffeine content and added sugars. These drinks can have substantial negative impacts on the health and behaviour of young children, including restlessness, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and increased heart rate. Additionally, research has shown excessive consumption of energy drinks can lead to obesity, tooth decay, and other health problems. Students are instead encouraged to drink water and consume healthy snacks to maintain their energy levels throughout the day. It is important to promote healthy habits and provide a safe and healthy learning environment for children to thrive. Parents we need your assistance in this matter whilst students are at school. Thank you in advance for your support.

Across The Curriculum
Reading Volunteers Needed! From 8.20am-9.00am
One of our major curriculum goals in our School Improvement Plan for 2023 is to enhance the learning growth of our students in reading. One of the ways we can improve student progress in this space is to increase reading volume, and this is where we need your help!
We would like to set up a morning reading routine, where, on a rotational basis, students would come down to the library to listen to a story read by a grown up, and to read their home reading book, and then go back to class. Ideally, every morning would be wonderful, but I can work out the days once I know how many people are available to help.
To assist in this initiative, you would need to have completed the short online Volunteers Induction form, through the link Mr Oches sent out earlier in the year.
If you are available during this time, please let me know what days you are able to assist us. Grandparents are more than welcome, too!
A Really Beautiful Moment- Can You Help With A New Breakfast Club Idea?
Recently, Mr Oches and I had a meeting with Matilda Walsh, who recently presented us with the most thoughtful idea, an idea that truly reflects the works of our Catholic Social Teachings.
Matilda has noticed that many students in the morning are either eating something from their lunchbox before school, or commenting that they haven't had time to have breakfast because the mornings are a rush. Matilda has come up with a plan, and recently presented this plan to Mr Oches in a well written, and extremely persuasive letter!
We would like to support Matilda in getting a free breakfast club up and running. Initially, we are seeking donations of cereal, UHT milk, paper cups and spoons. Our thinking at this stage, is that we will run Breakfast Club each Monday, beginning in Term 2, from 8am-8.20am, on the grid where I am on morning duty.
Any donations of the above items will be greatly appreciated. These can be given to the front office ladies at any time.
We will keep an eye on of our Breakfast Club as Term 2 progresses, and have in mind that we can extend the number of days if needed. It truly warms our hearts when students are making connections to what they are learning at home and in our classrooms to how they can help in their broader community.
Thank you to those who have been able to contribute some of the above items already. We really do appreciate your kindness.
