Spiritual Stocktaking
Shops have stocktaking, businesses have audits, employees have job reviews, people have medical check-ups and Christians have Lent. During these weeks, we consider the quality of our life. We take up Jesus’ first challenge: “Repent” – which comes from a Greek word meaning ‘having another think.’ Jesus doesn’t want us to just drift through life, as this so often leads to unhappiness and poor relationships.
There are three areas that are recommended that we check up on. Traditionally, they are called fasting, alms-giving and prayer. What these mean realistically is that we look at personal discipline, compassion for others and our relationship with God.
Too often we just make decisions on the basis of what others think or because we react impulsively to a crisis. Rarely do we take a stocktake of:
- the gifts that we have been given by God
- the demands we need to meet
- the desires of our heart.
Take some time this week to really ponder each of these areas, even take a pen in hand and write down what comes to mind. Now ask God for inspiration regarding the things on the list. Write down what comes to mind. Now mull over these things in the coming week.
Loving God, we rush, rush, rush through so much of life, not taking time to be with you and with those we love. Give us your Spirit of Wisdom that we may embrace the fullness of life that Jesus wants for us. We ask this in his name confident that you will hear us. Sr Kym Harris osb

Across The Curriculum
NAPLAN is fast approaching for our Year 3 and 5 students. Above is a link that will take you to a range of sample tests that parents can try with their students at home. These tests help to practice the keyboarding skills that our students need to complete the official testing. Below is the timetable of the official NAPLAN test window for our school.

Our Very Keen Gardeners!
Even though it has been very hot, we have had a fabulous group of gardeners working in the veggie patch and rejuvenating garden beds around the school by weeding and planting. Their hard work is both appreciated and noticed, as colourful flowers start blooming around the school. Yesterday, the Year 4 students tackled some very embedded weeds, and pulling one out in particular was like being in a one sided tug-o-war! Thank you, Year 4's. Our veggie patch is beginning to look like new!

Children's Involvement in the Centennial Celebrations
St. Michael’s Catholic Church is celebrating 100 years this Sunday, 5th March at 8 am. If your child would like to participate in the singing of the final song at the end of the Mass, please scan the QR below to indicate that your child can make it to the Mass to participate in this very special occasion. We will practice the singing and actions to the song at lunchtime with students that are able to attend. Your child is not required to wear their school uniform. There will be light refreshments at the end of Mass. You are most welcome to join us. If you have any questions, please phone the school.

Ash Wednesday
Thank you to 5W and Mrs. Walsh for leading our Ash Wednesday liturgy last week so respectfully and reverently.
Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent. Many Christians worldwide received a cross of ashes on their foreheads. Ashes are a sign of sorrow and repentance and God’s people have used this sign for hundreds of years. It also reminds Christians that they are followers of Jesus who believe God is always with them.
Lent is an important time for Catholics and other Christians throughout the world to prepare for the season of Easter, the most important time in the Church’s calendar celebrating the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the three pillars of Lent which are fasting (giving up something), almsgiving (giving to others), and prayer, Christians endeavor to develop a closer relationship with God.
Year 6 Retreat Experience
Last Thursday Mrs Milne facilitated a Servant Leadership Retreat with the year 6 leaders.
Students learned more about working with others, turn-taking, selfnesses, persistence, communication, and positivity while working together on fun tasks.
Students identified inspirational people who were examples of servant leaders and developed plans on how they can serve their own school community. Students had time to process everything they learned in a reflection time and wrote their future selves a letter that was put into a time capsule to be opened at the end of the year.

District School Sports trials have kicked off with many students trialling in CAP Swimming, Sarina District Netball and Basketball, Rugby League is just around the corner.
Carter has submitted time trial paperwork for Capricornia Swimming 10-12yrs.
We had many 10-12yrs girls attend Sarina District trials for Netball, congratulations to Ayla for making the Sarina team.
Hudson successfully trialled at Sarina District and made the Basketball team for Mackay trials.
We are so proud of the sportsmanship all players take to these events and wish them well as they continue through the trial ladder towards Capricornia and possibly further.
School Netball and Rugby League teams are currently being organised. We have 3 Netball teams this year from Yrs 1-6. If your child is interested in playing Rugby League for St Anne's at Challenge Cup this year and is in Year 5 or 6, please contact Mrs Ford.
Netball Qld Workshop - we were lucky enough to have Maddi from Netball Qld visit St Anne's on Tuesday 21/02. This was during the year 6 PE lesson. All students engaged in footwork and passing drills. Even the few reluctant boys took away some essential agility lessons to apply to their chosen sport and left the workshop smiling!
PE Rewards - for the past 5 weeks, students have been recognised for the following qualities during PE lessons; We are Safe, We are Respectful, We are Good Learners and We are Kind. Upon teacher or peer recognition of these qualities, students have been given a raffle ticket. Last Friday on assembly, we drew 3 tickets from the box. These students were able to choose an item of sports equipment purchased from Rebel using the Community Giveback Points. Congratulations Bella, Lewis and Allira.
