COMPASSION FOR CHRISTMAS | Christmas is coming and the pressure is on...for us to come up with the perfect gift, meal, gesture and yes indeed, the perfect family. That’s what the ads are telling us...in your dreams, or rather your delusions. Let’s be honest, Christmas is a minefield that challenges us in so many different ways: money (or lack of), cooking skills (ditto) and let’s not get started on the difficult family members. Maybe we are even that person! So, let’s step away from the false ideals and delusions and consider what Jesus came to offer us and what we and others really need: compassion. Jesus came to give us the compassion of God and as we receive it, so we are to share. The St Vincent de Paul Society has launched their Christmas appeal, which you will have heard about from your child or children. Here we are called to help those who are obviously less well off than ourselves. This is a good place to begin, and what we give will make a difference in ways we may never know. But we don’t stop there. Give compassion to your family and friends. Nobody ‘needs’ fancy gifts or expensive food, but we all hunger for a thoughtful gesture and to be served with love. If we start our Christmas preparations with compassion, with feeling for others, we begin a revolution in how we celebrate. Out go the unreal expectations that make us feel inadequate and depressed. In comes tenderness. If God loved the world, in all its weakness and failure, so much that he gave us Jesus, maybe this Christmas we can cut ourselves a little slack and be compassionate to all...ourselves included.
Loving Father, you sent Jesus to show your compassion to all. May I know his love with me, and as I begin my Christmas preparations, may compassion be the guiding light in all that I do for my family and friends. I ask this in Jesus’ name confident that you will hear me. Sr KymHarris osb

FAMILIES LEAVING | As our total enrolment drives many aspects of our school (staffing, budget, class sizes and structure) it is important that we try to be as accurate as possible in predicting the school enrolment for 2023. If you know that you will be leaving at the end of the year, could you please notify the office as soon as possible? Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated.
OUTSTANDING LIBRARY BOOKS | All school library borrowing has now finished for the year. Please make sure all outstanding library books are returned as soon as possible so stocktake can commence. If any books that a child borrowed aren't returned, it will be the parent's responsibility to pay for the cost of replacement, so please have a good look around both at home and in the classroom for any books that you may have missed.
THANK YOU | Special thanks to Shannon and Samara Wojeski for recently designing and making a cover for our prep sandpit. Your blood is worth bottling.

DONATION OF SUPPLIES
As the end of the school year draws to a close, we thought it would be timely to take a few things off your hands before the holidays. Any donations of calculators or Year 6 Bibles would be greatly appreciated as we endeavour to build class sets of these resources. Please send a note to your classroom teacher if you wish to donate these items and we’ll send them to the Library, to be catalogued. Thanks so much for your support.
Transition and Orientation | Over the past month, the Year 6 students have had the opportunity to participate in high school transition and orientation days at Sarina State High School, Mercy College and Catherine McAuley College. Students have loved the opportunity to see these schools, participate in lessons and begin the shift in mindset around how high school operates.
Students at St Anne's have also been participating in transition days. All students have had the opportunity to visit their 2023 classroom and participate in a variety of activities with their new teacher. There is a hum in the school during this time as students laugh, learn and engage in new experiences in preparation for next year.
The Good News
Farewell from Mr Presley

This week sadly is my last week at St Anne's as Assistant Principal (Religious Education). My four years (2019 to 2022) here have gone incredibly quick! As announced previously, I will be teaching at Holy Spirit College (Mount Pleasant) in the areas of Religious Education and Mathematics. My time at St Anne's has been a great journey of faith and self discovery and inspired in me a passion for the teaching of Religion and building a strong Catholic school identity.
In term four 2018, I was enjoying a term of long service leave (getting fit, being healthy, running around after my kids, finishing my university postgraduate study) when I received an unexpected message encouraging me to consider coming to St Anne's as APRE. Just as Jesus' mother Mary did, I said 'yes' not knowing what the journey involved. I'm glad I said 'yes' as the last four years have been incredibly rewarding, professionally and spiritually.
As my own children are now in high school and my wife (Anita) is taking on more teaching responsibility at her school, it is now time to be closer to home.
Being an APRE is something I have aspired to for a very a long time in my teaching career and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this school community.
I thank all the staff, students, parents, families and the St Michael's Parish community for your ongoing support during my time here. As Pope Francis' message says below, God calls us to use our gifts to make our world a better place, building the Kingdom of God here on earth. May we all be inspired to share our gifts from God to bring peace and joy to our world.

God's love, peace and blessings to you all for a Happy and Holy Christmas,
Stuart

Sunday's Gospel Reflection

The first Sunday of Advent sees the commencement of the new liturgical year.
This new liturgical cycle is referred to as Year A and features the gospel of Matthew. (Year B features the gospel of Mark and Year C, that we have just completed, features the gospel of Luke.)
Advent comes from the Latin word Adventus which literally means ‘coming’; it is also reflected in the Greek word Parousia, which is used to describe the second coming of Jesus.
So Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation of the coming of Christ into the world that is celebrated in the Nativity at Christmas.
The gospel passage richly expresses that anticipation and need for preparation.
Advent is a time of waiting and preparation. We need to take a critical look at how we live our life. It is time to make a change – for the better.
