From The Principal
Dear Parents, Care-Givers, Staff, Parishioners & Students,
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young copules walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.
Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.
It faced a blank wall! The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."
Lessons:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.
"Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present."

The Good News
Father's Day Reflection from Mr Presley
On Sunday, we celebrated Father's Day. This is a special day where we give thanks for the gift of fathers, grandfathers, uncles and those who are a fatherly figure. Being a father is also a life changing experience (as I have found out myself!)
I've been fortunate in my life to have my father, Dr Robert Presley, and my grandfather, Noel Dever (dec) as great role models.
Dad as a general surgeon, worked incredibly hard and always strived for excellence in his work. Dad's message of "do your job and do it well" continues to inspire me today as an educator. His thirst for ongoing improvement and continued learning is something that stands out to me. I remember times when he had to make sacrifices with family - often taking phone calls and having to race to the hospital to operate on someone urgently or working on a weekend. These sacrifices taught me how important his work was - placing the needs of the sick and ill first through being caring and compassionate.
Noel, affectionately known as 'Papa', was a shining example of love, faithfulness and gentleness. As my grandma developed Alzheimer's later in her life, Papa became her primary carer. He would care for Grandma right up until her passing. Papa and Grandma were true to their wedding vows of 'be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life'. Papa's example taught us all about love - for your spouse, your children, your family and your neighbour.
We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.
Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail.
We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.
This Father's Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach.
So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.
For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
In Your Holy name, O God, we pray.
Amen.

Sunday's Gospel Reflection

We live in an era of extraordinary wealth in some countries contrasted against extraordinary poverty and need in other countries. Accumulation of possessions has become a driving force in our society. Flat screen televisions, iPods, multiple computers, games consoles, portable DVD players, multifunction mobile phones are all ‘must-have’ items.
The thought of surrendering such items may be almost impossible to consider. However, Jesus’ message about being a disciple calls to us. How can some people in the world surround themselves with such luxuries while others don’t have enough to eat? Does the love of ‘possessions’ blind us to the needs of others?
Our ‘possessions’ are all those things – material, emotional, and psychological – that we cling to and that we think give us our identity and status. Jesus called for a radical reinterpretation of status and position. He tells his listeners that they cannot truly be disciples if they continue to cling to those things that are considered important in this world.
They have to surrender the things that bind them to this world’s ideas of status and position before they can fully embrace the kingdom view of the world. As Jesus said, you have to really count the cost!

Newsletter Report by Ben | I have been noticing that people have been playing in the leaf pile at lunch time. Can we please respect the gardener’s hard work and stay out. Keep in mind, there might be snakes hiding in the leaves.
Good job to those who have been coming down to first lunch quickly. Can we please remember to do the same at second break also?
With less than half the year to go, remember to stay positive and keep up the good work.
