T3 W8 Newsletter 2022
From The Principal
Last week I was reading an article that strengthened my understanding of the important relationship between the family and the school. For my vision of leadership to be fully alive and responsive there MUST be a strong relationship between home and school. At times there will be bumps in the road but that is life and that is to be expected; dignity and respect must always be part of the way forward. The church also clearly expresses the view that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children. There are statistics of time that highlight this.
For instance;
The number of hours in one year is 8760
The number of hours a child spends at school is 1398
The number of hours a child spends asleep is 2980
The number of waking hours with parents is 4382
These statistics indicate that the number of waking hours that children have with their parents is three times the amount they have with their teachers.
When children go to school, education becomes a partnership. Parents invite teachers to join in the education of their children, they are not simply handed over to them. Parents and teachers need to communicate and support each other in this ever-demanding and evolving role. Therefore this partnership in a Catholic School should be directed towards developing the potential of each child to be amongst all things: faith-filled, loving, forgiving, intellectually competent, physically active and motivated through self-esteem and self-discipline.
This strong bond is evident in our school and is something that I am proud of. As Jesus said … “Where two or three are gathered in my name … there am I in your midst.”
Principal's Messages
Pupil Free Day Friday 2nd September
A reminder to all parents. There is a Pupil Free Day on Friday 2nd September. There will be no supervision available at St Anne's on that day, so please ensure you make alternate arrangements for your children.

CIVIC BREAKFAST | Last week our school captains were invited to attend a Civic Breakfast and got to meet the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM and our Mayor, Councillor Greg Williamson. Our captains were presented with a gift from Her Excellency as a momento of the occasion.
Our school captains did us all proud at this very important event. Well done Denver and Mia!!!

Father's Day Stall
Our Father’s Day Stall was held on Monday at school, and it was a fantastic turnout.
Many Dads / Granddads & Father figures will be waking up on Sunday morning to handpicked heart-warming gifts.
Our St Anne’s FOCUS group work hard in the background to have this available for our school each year and we are very grateful that you all as parents and guardians support this event. The kids absolutely love the idea of handpicking something for their parents and exchanging money, we can really see a sense of pride as they leave with their gifts and their excitement of the reactions they are anticipating.
Thank you to Mel Keating and Rebecca Saunders for assisting with the set up and helping on the day selling to the kids.
Also Thank you to Nikki McCowan for the organising of the gifts, set up and helping the students with purchasing their gifts.

The Good News

Jesus’ message about humility is as relevant today as it was in the first century.
It is part of human nature to want to fit in and to want to belong. Sometimes we are tempted to seek this acceptance at any cost.
When our sense of belonging is achieved through the harming, humiliation or exploitation of others then the price is too high.
When our desire for the latest fashion comes at the expense of others being able to simply live, then the price is too high.
When we lift ourselves up by putting others down, then the price is too high.
Jesus advises us to be humble, and not to assume that we have a higher position or status than others. That way we won’t be embarrassed if someone else comes along whose status is actually higher than ours.

Social Justice Sunday
Social Justice Statement 2022-23, Respect: Confronting Violence and Abuse points out that the roots of domestic and family violence “lie in the abuse of power to control and dominate others” and that “this stands in contrast to the relationships to which God calls us”.
Our relationships should be “marked by equality and reciprocity rather than domination and violence, respect and freedom rather than coercion and control”.
We support women in calling for respect in relationships; their lives and those of their children are sacred.
The statement will be released in early August and will form the centrepiece of Social Justice Sunday celebrations on 28 August. Visit the Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace here:https://socialjustice.catholic.org.au/
