From The Principal
Rejoicing in who God has made us to be.
Sometimes I think Jesus is messing with the minds of those he is preaching to. In next Sunday’s Gospel, he has a swipe at the Pharisees as he sees them jockeying for the best place at a meal…and them tells them to try for the lowest place. Now if they took him seriously, it would be the same problem but in a different part of the room. But imagine if ‘place’ wasn’t important at all except to maintain good order.
A few years ago, I attended a workshop with a world-renowned calligrapher. Most in the class were excellent calligraphers. A few, myself included, were not. The teacher's educative process was for each of us to do an exercise and then bring an example to the front for public critique. Scary stuff? Not with him, it wasn't. He found something good in everyone's work. (Indeed, I felt he learnt something from each piece.) And he found something to challenge in every piece of work - even the most stunning. Being better or worse than others simply did not come into his judgements. The principle he operated on was that we each wanted to become a better calligrapher - as he did himself. We were all there together to learn from our practice and from each other. His method of teaching exemplified the transformation that comes about when we embrace the humility that Jesus is offering us. We get off the treadmill of comparison, which is so destructive of our spirit, and enter into the dynamic dance of love and creativity. We accept ourselves...and we accept each other.
Loving Father, give me the wisdom to accept myself and others so that we might rejoice in the gifts and talents that you have given us. May our appreciation of each other build up love between us. I ask this in Jesus’ name, confident that you will hear me.

High Jump Bar to Give Away
We have recently upgraded our high jump bar and have the old bar available to give away, if anyone sees a use for it. I thought perhaps someone could adapt it to make a long handle for fruit picking or the like. If you would like the old high jump bar please contact the office. First in first served. Below is a picture for your reference.

Book Fair & Book Week

Schoolastic Book Week is running from Monday the 22nd to Wednesday the 31st of August.
Teachers will have the opportunity to take their classes to the library to visit the Book Fair display during this time and students will be able to make purchases before school and at lunch times. A timetable for this is still in the works and will be shared with families closer to Book Week.
DRESS UP DAY
Wednesday the 24th August.
The theme is Dreaming With Eyes Open, which is vague but could mean lots of room for creativity!
Dress up as an Australian animal, the occupation you’d like when you grow up or your favourite book character.
Road Safety Week & Walk To School Day

QLD Road Safety Week
The Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Queensland Police Service host Queensland Road Safety Week each year in August. This year, QLD Road Safety Week is 22-26 August 2022 with the theme Road safety starts with me. This is a great opportunity to promote the importance of road safety to our school communities throughout Queensland.
Sadly, road trauma is a leading cause of death of Queensland children and youth. As a community, young people need our support and guidance to keep safe on and around roads while they are still developing the cognitive, sensory and physical skills required to be safe road users.
To do this, we’re asking students to wear YELLOW to school on Friday 26th August and join us in a WALK TO SCHOOL DAY on Friday morning. Students will have the opportunity to participate in road safety activities throughout the week and learn more about what road safety starts with me means for them.
We hope that together, we can shine a light on road safety and lay the foundations for a generation of safe road users.
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY (Fri 26th August)
Meet at ANZAC Park (Rotary Lions Park) from 8:10am
Leave at 8:20am
Walk over the railway line
Cross the road at Grandma’s Place
Use school crossing and walk to school.

The Good News

'Yes, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.'
These words of Jesus carry with them a major thrust of his ministry in the gospel of Luke. Jesus reminds his audience that their status in society means nothing when it comes to their status in the kingdom of God. What will make people ‘first’ in the kingdom is their acceptance of Jesus’ message, their faith and their compassionate actions toward others. Jesus’ insistence on the inherent value of the ‘last’ in society must have been a constant irritant to those who considered themselves ‘first’.
To be Christian is more than a name; more than a title. If we put our hand up and claim the title of Christian, then there are consequences that flow from that. Those who are disillusioned by religion frequently name hypocrisy as the major reason for their disillusionment. Sometimes, that’s an easy out. We can’t all live like Jesus all of the time.
However, we are called to take Jesus as our model of the Christian life and to use his example as a guiding beacon.
To call ourselves Christian is to try to be Christ-like in all our actions.

Works of Mercy @ St Anne's
Inspired by Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy, we strive to follow the 'Works of Mercy' at St Anne's. It is through these actions that we can make Jesus real to those around us.
At St Anne's, our giving basket is a great way for people to give items to people in need within our school community.
If you have items that you would like to give, these can be placed into the basket in the school office.

Finance News
Term 3 School Fees are now overdue. Due date for payment was Monday 8th August. If you have not paid in full, and do not already have a payment plan in place, please contact our Finance Officer, Sandra Adams as soon as possible to discuss options.
