From The Principal
MR PRESLEY
It is with sadness that I announce the following news.
Mr Stuart Presley has accepted a position at another school and therefore from 2023, will be concluding his time as a member of both the leadership and teaching team at St Anne's. Stuart is planning other adventures on his professional horizon. In making this decision I know that Stuart has thought long and hard about the way to navigate through the next few years, especially now that his own children are in high school.
I commend Stuart on putting family first! This is a most admirable thing to do. I also appreciate the time and thinking that it took to reach this decision. This can't have been easy for him.
In releasing this news to you I convey the message that there will be ample opportunity to thank Stuart for his work at St Anne's towards the end of the year when our formal goodbye celebrations and rituals commence.
I HAVE A DREAM | I have a dream that as a faith-filled community with staff, students, parents, parishioners and clergy together in prayer and action, we live the gospel of Jesus in a loving family atmosphere. We are joyful people who come to know, love and serve God better by actively witnessing our faith and continuing to walk with our God.
I have a dream that the gospel values permeate every aspect of school life so that Christ's standards for living are evident in our everyday lives.
I have a dream that all members of our school community are given the opportunity to grow in faith and are actively encouraged to participate in the sacramental life of the church, with prayer and worship being central to our catholic beliefs and to the beliefs of our school. The relationship between parish and school must then necessarily be a close one.
I have a dream that together we celebrate the achievements, joys and sorrows of all members of the school community. Each member is a precious individual with needs, wants, and desires, expectations and ambitions. The sense of community within the school and the fostering of relationships is integral to school life. Everyone has a valuable contribution to make.
I have a dream that we provide for children the best possible Catholic education in partnership with parents, caregivers, parish and wider community. Where we cater for the needs of the individual and develop the whole person - spiritually, academically, physically, socially, culturally and emotionally - so that each individual can attain their fullest potential.
I have a dream that children develop a love of learning and life; where learning is enjoyable, meaningful and rewarding for all concerned. What is learnt should lead to the yearning to learn more. Efforts must be recognised and celebrated. Children are provided with the opportunities to develop self-discipline and responsibility for their actions.
I have a dream that we encourage dreams to be dreamt. A vision and hope for the future must be encouraged within all members of the school community.
Do you dream?
The challenge this week is to look back at your past dreams and see if you have achieved any of them. Did these dreams involve your children? Talk to them about it tonight at the dinner table; foster a conversation about dreams. If you find it hard to dream, then take some precious time for yourself each day; think, imagine and then try to dream.

May Tommy rest in peace.

Book Fair & Book Week

Schoolastic Book Week is running from Monday the 22nd to Wednesday the 31st of August.

DRESS UP DAY

The theme is Dreaming With Eyes Open, which is vague but could mean lots of room for creativity!
Dress up as an Australian animal, the occupation you’d like when you grow up or your favourite book character.
COLOURING IN COMPETITION
Go in the draw to win one of three FREE books of your choice from the Book Fair. Colouring in sheets must be finished and handed to the office by Monday the 22nd of August.
Road Safety Week & Walk To School Day
QLD Road Safety Week
The Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Queensland Police Service host Queensland Road Safety Week each year in August. This year, QLD Road Safety Week is 22-26 August 2022 with the theme Road safety starts with me. This is a great opportunity to promote the importance of road safety to our school communities throughout Queensland.
Sadly, road trauma is a leading cause of death of Queensland children and youth. As a community, young people need our support and guidance to keep safe on and around roads while they are still developing the cognitive, sensory and physical skills required to be safe road users.
To do this, we’re asking students to wear YELLOW to school on Friday 26th August and join us in a WALK TO SCHOOL DAY on Friday morning. Students will have the opportunity to participate in road safety activities throughout the week and learn more about what road safety starts with me means for them.
We hope that together, we can shine a light on road safety and lay the foundations for a generation of safe road users.
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY (Fri 26th August)
Meet at ANZAC Park (Rotary Lions Park) from 8:10am
Leave at 8:20am
Walk over the railway line
Cross the road at Grandma’s Place
Use school crossing and walk to school.

The Good News
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Monday 15th August

There is no scriptural account of the Assumption but we can draw on a different significant gospel passage that features Mary. However, the account of Mary rushing to her cousin and exuberantly proclaiming the Magnificat is an example of Mary’s joyful ‘Yes’ to life and to God that tradition tells us was rewarded in her bodily assumption into heaven.
Immediately prior to this account, the angel Gabriel has announced to Mary that she is to give birth to the Christ-child. Her humble response to the angel and to God is, ‘Let it be done to me according to your word’ even though she knew the shame and rejection her pregnancy would cause in her village. Whilst her initial response is subdued and humble, it is a ‘Yes’ to God’s will. Mary’s next instinct is an emphatic ‘Yes’ to life.
The angel tells Mary that her cousin, Elizabeth, is also to bear a child. Elizabeth was an older woman and keenly felt the social and cultural shame of not being able to bear children. When Mary hears that Elizabeth is already pregnant she rushes to be with her. Where no life was thought possible, God has created life.

Works of Mercy @ St Anne's
Inspired by Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy, we strive to follow the 'Works of Mercy' at St Anne's. It is through these actions that we can make Jesus real to those around us.
At St Anne's, our giving basket is a great way for people to give items to people in need within our school community.
If you have items that you would like to give, these can be placed into the basket in the school office.

Finance News
Term 3 School Fees are now overdue. Due date for payment was Monday 8th August. If you have not paid in full, and do not already have a payment plan in place, please contact our Finance Officer, Sandra Adams as soon as possible to discuss options.
Sports News
Mackay District Track and Field Trials
Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of August, seven of our St Anne's students represented Sarina & District Team at the Mackay District Track and Field trials. By all accounts these athletes ran, threw and jumped their hearts out. We are so proud of Hudson V, Ahlara K, Georgia B, Lilly Z, Neena P, Cielo M and Mitchell A. This experience was a great learning opportunity for our students, and we are immensely proud of the courage, determination and sportsmanship they showed while representing our school, their families and the greater Sarina District.
Congratulations to the following two students selected in the Mackay District Team to compete in the Capricornia trials 22nd and 23rd August in Mackay.
Mitchell Adams - 11yrs boys 100m and 200m
Lilly Zaro - 10yrs girls Shot Put
We wish them all the best!
Jump Rope For Heart
Wow! The response to this fundraising initiative has been overwhelmingly successful. Most importantly, the students have been determined to raise funds for a very important cause and in doing so, build awareness around their own health and wellbeing. The skipping skills of every single student over the 5 weeks has improved significantly. Students have been motivated to reach goals such as Kangaroo Club (5 continuous skips for Prep class or 10 continuous skips for Year 1), 1 minute club, 2 minute club or 3 minute club.
Thank you for supporting your children in this process. The latest figure in online donations has $4,018 collected, with the cash donations to be returned by Friday 19th August at the latest. Please send all cash donations and sponsorship forms to our school office. Once these have been collected, Mrs Ford will place the rewards order and in the coming weeks students will receive their Heart Foundation prizes.
