From The Principal
This term we have gotten off to a great start! It was wonderful to be able to accompany students to the Annual Whitsunday Voices Festival where they met authors both known and fledgling. This excursion is one of the highlights on our curriculum calendar. The students who went were inspired by the creativity of the authors and this always has a very positive impact on their writing! Well done to all those budding authors who are working harder than ever on improving writing.
As a result of this experience we now have 8 new books in our library for borrowing. Excursions such as this have far reaching impacts.
We extend a huge thanks to our wonderful FOCUS Group (P&F Association) who funded the transportation into Mackay. The manner in which you support our school is amazing and for that we thank you.
Below is a gallery of the new books in our library; these were purchased at Whitsunday Voices. (Click on each image to see more detail)

Across The Curriculum
Whitsunday Voices
Recently, the St Anne's students from year two to year six, attended the annual Whitsunday Voices Literacy Festival. This fantastic festival allowed the students the opportunity to be immersed in the behind the scenes thought processes of a variety of children's authors, poets, and actors.
One author was Nat Amoore, who was truly inspiring and very quick-witted. She showed the students that you can make an exciting story out of anything, if you use believable descriptions.
The year four class was also immersed in a theatrical performance by Shake and Stirred. They brought Roald Dahl's Dirty Beasts and twisted fairytales to life in a shockingly funny performance.
The students also had the opportunity to purchase books by the authors and have them personally signed during a meet and greet session.
The students are truly grateful to the FOCUS group for assisting with transportation costs to this event. The students are so inspired that they cannot wait to see what next year's lineup offers.

The Good News
Living our St Anne's Mission Statement
Thank you to everyone for your very kind donations to the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal - whether it was clothing items or money. This is how we make Jesus real in our Catholic school community - through kindness and compassion towards our neighbours! Since these photos were taken, more items have arrived!

Don't forget about our giving basket!
Located in our school office is our 'Giving Basket' which we use to collect and pass on items to people in need from our school and local community. Due to recent social and economic pressures, there are many families in the local community who are struggling. We are called as followers of Christ to live the 'Works of Mercy', inspired by Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy to bring justice to the world.
The ways in which we can live this are by donating:
- Pens / pencils / school supplies
- Food (cans / packaged)
- Sanitary items / personal hygiene items
- Money (passed on to St Vincent De Paul and CARITAS as our Catholic charities)
- Frozen meals (passed onto individuals or families in need)

Have a great week. God's blessings,
Stuart.

Finance News
Term 3 School Fees have now been sent out to parents. Please check your emails. Due date for payment is Monday 8th August. Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families,
The Scholastic Book Fair is nearly here! It will open 8:30 am from the 17th to the 31st of August.
You and your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.
This is also a great way for you to learn about, and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.
Scholastic Book Fairs help us show students the wonder of reading. After all, when kids choose their own books, they will be more excited to read, and they will naturally read more!

Netball Gala Day
A great day was had by all at the Netball Gala Day in Mackay on Friday 24th July.
I’m so proud of the way the players from St Anne’s conducted themselves on and off the court. They showed great teamwork, sportsmanship, enthusiasm and encouragement for each other across all 10 games!
The Spirits, coached by Mrs Hazel, took to the courts with optimism and were determined to learn the rules of netball as a team with some players having never played before. They quickly picked up the positions, transferred their basketball skills and footy expertise and worked together to come away with 3 wins and a draw from 5 games.
The Stars, coached by Miss Lymbery, were excited to play together as a team in preparation for Challenge Cup in Term 3. They worked hard to apply drills from training into their games and experimented with different player combinations to find what worked well. The Stars stayed strong and came away with 4 wins.
Thank you to all the parents and families who made this day possible by volunteering their time, supporting the players and helping out on the day.
What better way to end the term than enjoying a day in the sun, playing netball with friends!

Challenge Cup
Rugby League
St Anne's, along with MacKillop Catholic Primary School (Andergrove) and St Joseph's Catholic Primary School (North Mackay), joined forces to enter a team for the 2022 Catholic Schools' Challenge Cup held in Yeppoon from the 13th - 15th July.
The team recorded 2 wins and 4 losses from the 6 games played - two of the losses were very close scorelines. Playing as a combined team, our goal was to always remain competitive and stay in the game. This was evident to everyone present with some great individual and team efforts shining through.
Some highlights were our captain Zach playing outstanding football in all games making big runs and defending strongly; Ronan playing mr-fix-it and playing strongly in the middle and edges with strong defence and pace in attack and all of our players contributing to the success of the team.
I extend my thanks to all our players for their excellent behaviour and sportsmanship whilst at the carnival. Also thanks to the parents for transporting your children and taking time off work and away from your families. Thank you for your support of the team.
Mr Stuart Presley

Netball
I was very lucky to take 12 girls away for netball this year to compete in the annual Challenge Cup competition at St Branden’s Yeppoon. We joined forces with MacKillop Catholic Primary School Mackay and had a great week away watching and supporting each other play.
In true St Anne’s spirit, the girls played their hearts our and showed great teamwork, sportsmanship and enthusiasm in all our games. We may have had a rocky start but we came back firing on Day 2 to secure a spot in the finals.
The girls really came together as a team and dug deep like I knew they could. We won both finals games and came away with the Challenge Cup Plaque!
I’m so proud of the way the players from St Anne’s conducted themselves on and off the courts and look forward to more Challenge Cup Carnivals in the years to come.
Mrs Lymbery
