From The Principal
Dear Parents, Staff & Students,
Attitudes are an interesting thing! Whatever we undertake in life is either marred or enhanced by attitude - the attitude of others and most definitely our own. Where does yours fit into your life?
“Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever!
There were times that I wondered if I would make it today; but I did! And because I did, I’m going to celebrate!
Today, I’m going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far; the accomplishments, the many blessings, and yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.
I will go through this day with my head held high and a happy heart. I will marvel at God’s seemingly simple gifts; the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds. Today, none of God’s miraculous creations will escape my notice.
Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I will make someone smile. I’ll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone who seems down. I’ll tell a child how special they are, and I’ll tell someone I love, how much I care for them and how much they mean to me.
Today is the day I will quit worrying about what I don’t have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things Gods has already given me. I’ll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and God’s Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.
And tonight, before I go to bed, I’ll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon. And I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.
As the day ends and I lay my head on my pillow, I will thank God for the best day of my life. I will sleep the contented sleep of a child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!”
Gregory M Lousig-Nont
How has your attitude been lately? Have you allowed it to make your life better? Have you used it to enhance the life of others? How are you going to make today your best day ever? How are you going to make your tomorrows your best days ever? Attitudes are important – make yours count!
Principal's Messages

PRAYERS PLEASE | Today Mrs H and her family laid Mick Holmes to rest. Mick died suddenly last week and was fondly remembered for his great sense of humour, love of his wife and family and zest for life.
Please continue to keep Mrs H in your prayers as she journeys these coming months.
Mrs H sends her love and wanted the school community to know that she is so very grateful for all the love and care given to her through the many ways that people in our school community have helped and assisted her.
SEMESTER ONE REPORT CARDS
Later this week, report cards will be available through Parent Lounge. Please ensure you are able to login to Parent Lounge through the school website. If you have misplaced your login credentials, please contact the office. I also alert parents to the letter from our Diocesan Director (which has been in previous newsletters and is again in this one), regarding the ‘on-balance’ decisions your child’s teacher may make if there has been significant student absences this semester due to illness.
This report is provided to inform parents of their child’s progress at school and is based on the results of formal testing, assignments, set tasks, work samples, class activities and daily observations. The report card is one of several ways in which parents can monitor the progress of their child throughout the year. Meetings with teachers as well as informal communication between the teacher and parent should ensure that parents are kept fully informed about academic performance as well as spiritual, personal, physical, and social development. Through the report card teachers may also comment on the student’s behaviour.
When students begin a new year level, it is important to remember they are working towards a new achievement standard from the Australian Curriculum. This means there is a lot of new learning for students and a big step up from the previous year. Students are supposed to reach the achievement standard by the end of the year. They are continually working towards this standard, meaning by Semester One report cards they may still be developing. However, students have the rest of the year to work towards the achievement standard. Please ensure you discuss the report card with your child highlighting the positives and things they need to work on. If you have any concerns, please see your classroom teacher.
I would like to thank the teachers for their time, professionalism and commitment given to writing these reports. If you have any questions about your child’s report card, please see your child’s teacher.
SCHOOL UNIFORM REMINDERS
With the cold weather upon us, parents are reminded of the school uniform expectations for the cooler months. Both boys and girls are required to wear a school jumper which can be purchased from the Uniform shop OR a SCHOOL BLUE ONLY jumper. If tracksuit pants are worn they should be school colours ONLY. Girls can wear navy tights under their dresses rather than track suit pants.
Please ensure your child’s school jumper still fits and is in good condition, as non-uniform jumpers are not allowed to be worn. Please ensure jumpers are clearly named so they can easily be returned to the students. Thank you for ensuring your child attends school in the correct school uniform.
COVID-19
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE | St Anne’s Catholic Primary School wishes to advise you that, during the past week, we have been notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community.
St Anne’s regularly consults with the Catholic Education Office and relevant authorities, and continues to follow the advice of Queensland Health regarding cleaning requirements.
As COVID-19 remains active in our community we ask you to continue to monitor your child’s/children’s health and if they develop any flu-like symptoms:
- Keep your child/children at home
- Seek a PCR or Rapid Antigen test where it is recommended and notify the school of positive results. Please be aware, a negative COVID test does not change the requirement to be symptom free to attend school.
- Follow the advice of Queensland Health
As we continue to navigate the pandemic, please remind your child/ren to:
- maintain good hand hygiene at all times
- cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow and dispose of tissues in the bin immediately.
- practice social distancing from others where possible
- wear masks when required
Please also inform us if any of our students contract COVID-19 as a result of being first placed in isolation.
We will continue to work closely with health authorities to keep our school community informed of any developments and advice. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.

Sunday's Gospel Reflection

The Feast of the Corpus Christi celebrates the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Sunday's celebration is also know as Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

Jesus spent a long day healing the sick and preaching to a large group of followers. It was getting late, and perhaps even the disciples’ stomachs were growling. The disciples told Jesus to send everyone home for dinner. Instead, Jesus told them to make dinner. All they could scrounge up were five loaves of bread and two fish. Surely Jesus would change his mind. But Jesus told them to organise everyone into groups and get them seated.
Jesus prayed over the loaves and fish and asked the disciples to start handing out the food. What they probably thought would be quick work took a while, and the food kept coming and coming. Imagine their surprise when everyone had eaten their fill and there were still lots of leftovers.
In this miracle, the only one found in all four Gospels, Jesus not only feeds the people but teaches the disciples how to minister to others. Jesus’ blessing of the bread also mirrors the Eucharist. We are a eucharistic community.
We share the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, but we are also called to feed others in the Body of Christ.

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:37-39

Sacramental News
Congratulations to Nataya (Year 6) who completed the rite of acceptance for her sacramental journey into the Catholic Church at St Michael's on Sunday. Baptism is the first of three Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church, the other two being Confirmation and Eucharist. Through Baptism we are incorporated into the body of Christ. Nataya is also preparing to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist.
Congratulations to Lucas, Dustan and Zoe (Year 4) along with other candidates from St Michael's Parish who have commenced their preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.
First Eucharist is the sacrament that completes the process of initiation and is when one can fully participate in the Eucharist by receiving Holy Communion.
Eucharist is unique among the sacraments as it is at the heart of our faith. For Catholics, the Eucharist, or Mass, is the most powerful way we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ. Sunday after Sunday (some, of course, gather everyday), Catholics gather to celebrate the Eucharist, the ritual in which, by the power of the Holy Spirit, bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. We who celebrate are also transformed, becoming Christ’s presence to others, and recognising the presence of Christ in others.
Please keep in your prayers our candidates as they journey to a deeper understanding of Christ.

2022 Track & Field Carnival
Firstly, I would like to repeat what I said on Assembly last Friday, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! These events cannot run smoothly without the attention to detail, physical and mental hard work, organisation and leadership shown by a wonderful team!
Our brilliant parent volunteers, Sonja Renehan and Lucy, Mel Keating, Rebecca Bearham, Lisa Johnstone, Sam Triffett as well as Briana Preston and Jesse Farrell (who were there very early line marking). All volunteers worked tirelessly all-day line judging, timing, measuring and cheering, sometimes missing their own children's field events to help at the track. Also our amazing parents who were not able to volunteer this year, we appreciated your support from the sidelines and hoped you enjoyed spectating.
We were so very fortunate to have Kym from Athletics North Queensland volunteer her day to assist in the running of our field events. Kym's amazing depth of knowledge was utilised many times within the field. We hope Kym will come back next year to assist in some of the PE lessons prior to the carnival, in attempts to fine tune our techniques.
Thank you to Loretta Payne and her team from Sarina State High School who provided the very delicious treats and food. We are very grateful to the staff and students for entirely organising this yummy service on the day!
Little Athletics Sarina allowed our school to hire their oval, equipment and canteen. Please continue to support this club. As with all community run committees, they are always looking for members and support. Thank you Shannon for your hard work in ensuring this facility continues to be on offer for our school.
It was a wonderful day to celebrate all students in an environment outside of the classroom. All staff mentioned how lovely it was to see students shine in different ways. I also sincerely thank the hard work of all our St Anne's Teachers and Teacher Aides. Where would we be without these people always going the extra mile?

YOU for 2032
Queensland Representative School Sport wish to advise you about the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-wide talent identification opportunity that could potentially see students on a pathway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
This program is called Youfor2032 and is designed to unearth the next generation of elite Queensland athletes who have the potential to win on the world stage, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are up to 15 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports looking to match their best coaches with Queensland’s best talent. It doesn’t matter if students have experience in any of these sports. Athletic ability coupled with a great attitude and supportive parents or guardians are the key ingredients needed to excel in this program.
Those successful in being selected for Youfor2032 will receive expert training, coaching and development support, from State and National Sporting Organisations as well as the QAS.
This could be the first step in an incredible journey for our students.
