From The Principal
Report Cards are almost upon us once again! At this time, it is opportune to reflect on how your child or children are going and just how you can get that little bit more from them. I happened across an article entitled, “Helping Your Child at School” that came from a book called ‘A Parent Survival Kit.’ The tips that it provides are effective ones in getting the most out of your child and school.
Be Informed - Listen to your child. Read notices and, if possible, attend meetings.
Be Positive - Your negative and sour attitude will not help your child succeed at school
Be Co-operative - Ask the teacher how you can help at school and how you can help your child.
Be Assertive - Speak up for yourself and your child. Express your own feelings and ideas directly, but not in an angry, aggressive way. Teachers want to work with you.
Don’t be a Gossip - If there’s a problem don’t talk to everyone about it. Just share it with the trusted few who will give helpful advice. Gossip kills relationships.
Be Friendly - Write letters of thanks and appreciation. All teachers and principals need encouragement.
Children only get one go at being a child and in receiving an education. It is therefore up to each one of us (parents and teachers alike) to make sure that it will be the best education we can provide. It is this partnership between home and school that will ensure that we will achieve our hopes and dreams for these children, and help them achieve their own hopes and dreams.
I urge you to discuss with your child their Report Card when it is issued at the end of term, looking at the areas they did well in and the areas that they can put more effort in next term. There is always room for improvement but there is also a real need to give praise and recognition when and where it is due!
Peace & Blessings

Principal's Messages
Dear Parents
A factsheet about Kids Messenger is included with this newsletter.
Messenger Kids is a messaging app which allows children to be in a safe environment to connect with their friends and family. Parents and careers are in control of the app’s management, ensuring their child is involved with safe and positive communication.
Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some of our students are on this platform and messages of a nature that are not in line with our ethos are being written.
Parents, we ask that you immediately monitor the use of this app, please log on and have a look.
The user of the app has the option to mute the conversation or to block a user in an instant if they feel unsafe or threatened. Alternatively, as the parent, you can delete the contact so the child can no longer hear from this user. We ask that if you find untoward messages to please report the user to Facebook within the app.
Please make some time to sit and communicate with your children about their use of the app and remind them of the safety features available to them including mute, block and the ability to leave a group.
Remember to be mindful of screen time, be actively aware of who they are connecting with and check in every now and again on what is being said.

COVID-19
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE | St Anne’s Catholic Primary School wishes to advise you that, during the past week, we have been notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community.
St Anne’s regularly consults with the Catholic Education Office and relevant authorities, and continues to follow the advice of Queensland Health regarding cleaning requirements.
As COVID-19 remains active in our community we ask you to continue to monitor your child’s/children’s health and if they develop any flu-like symptoms:
- Keep your child/children at home
- Seek a PCR or Rapid Antigen test where it is recommended and notify the school of positive results. Please be aware, a negative COVID test does not change the requirement to be symptom free to attend school.
- Follow the advice of Queensland Health
As we continue to navigate the pandemic, please remind your child/ren to:
- maintain good hand hygiene at all times
- cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow and dispose of tissues in the bin immediately.
- practice social distancing from others where possible
- wear masks when required
Please also inform us if any of our students contract COVID-19 as a result of being first placed in isolation.
We will continue to work closely with health authorities to keep our school community informed of any developments and advice. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.

Sunday's Gospel Reflection

Sunday's reading from the Gospel of John is Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit. The disciples are hiding out, scared and defeated. Jesus comes to them and breathes new life into them – the breath of the Spirit. With the gift of the Spirit comes the gift of peace and a mandate to go out and forgive the sins of others.
‘Come, Holy Spirit’, or its Latin, Veni Sante Spiritus, has become the basis of countless prayers and hymns over many hundreds of years. To this day, it remains a powerful invocation that can be used in prayer or meditation. Three simple words convey a wealth of meaning. The invitation for the Spirit to ‘Come’ indicates recognition of the need for the Spirit’s intervention and openness to accept the guidance that the Spirit brings. It is a powerful, simple prayer that can be used at the outset of any significant undertaking or whenever you find yourself in need of inspiration.
We thank you, God, for sending the Holy Spirit to help and guide us. We ask you to hear our prayers, through Jesus Christ, your Son. Amen.

Sports News

YOU for 2032
Queensland Representative School Sport wish to advise you about the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-wide talent identification opportunity that could potentially see students on a pathway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
This program is called Youfor2032 and is designed to unearth the next generation of elite Queensland athletes who have the potential to win on the world stage, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are up to 15 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports looking to match their best coaches with Queensland’s best talent. It doesn’t matter if students have experience in any of these sports. Athletic ability coupled with a great attitude and supportive parents or guardians are the key ingredients needed to excel in this program.
Those successful in being selected for Youfor2032 will receive expert training, coaching and development support, from State and National Sporting Organisations as well as the QAS.
This could be the first step in an incredible journey for our students.
Visit the program website for more information:
