From The Principal
I'm not sure if this is a true story or not but it sure does have a powerful message.
A little boy was intently watching the balloon man at the local Country Fair. The man was evidently a good salesman, he allowed a red balloon to break free and soar high up into the air, thereby attracting a crowd of prospective young customers.
Next he released a blue balloon, then a yellow and then a white one. They all went soaring up into the sky until they disappeared. The little boy stood looking at a black balloon for a long time, then asked, “Sir, if you sent the black one up, would it go as high as the others?”
The balloon man gave the child an understanding smile. He snipped the string that held the black balloon in place, and, as it soared upward, said, “It isn't the colour son! It’s what’s on the inside that makes it rise.” (Anthony deMello, SJ The Heart of the Enlightened)
There is a lot of activity happening at the school at the moment. From writing programs to looking at the updated version of the Australian Curriculum to P&F Meetings to Board to NAPLAN. In this flurry of activity it is important that we take time daily to reflect upon our values and what it is that is making us rise!
Because we are a Catholic School, we are all collectively working towards the same goals, to achieve the same purposes. I am very appreciative of the ongoing support for all our endeavours with your children. If former US President Kennedy’s words are mirrored anywhere in the world, it is here at St Anne's Catholic Primary School. “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

COVID-19
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE | St Anne’s Catholic Primary School wishes to advise you that, during the past week, we have been notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community.
St Anne’s regularly consults with the Catholic Education Office and relevant authorities, and continues to follow the advice of Queensland Health regarding cleaning requirements.
As COVID-19 remains active in our community we ask you to continue to monitor your child’s/children’s health and if they develop any flu-like symptoms:
- Keep your child/children at home
- Seek a PCR or Rapid Antigen test where it is recommended and notify the school of positive results. Please be aware, a negative COVID test does not change the requirement to be symptom free to attend school.
- Follow the advice of Queensland Health
As we continue to navigate the pandemic, please remind your child/ren to:
- maintain good hand hygiene at all times
- cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow and dispose of tissues in the bin immediately.
- practice social distancing from others where possible
- wear masks when required
Please also inform us if any of our students contract COVID-19 as a result of being first placed in isolation.
We will continue to work closely with health authorities to keep our school community informed of any developments and advice. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.

Sunday's Gospel Reflection
What does it mean to love as Jesus loved?
The love Jesus poured out to all was an expression of God’s love that has been poured out to all creation since the very beginning and continues to be poured out today. God’s love doesn’t keep score.
When humankind turned its back on God, God’s love continued to call them back to faithful relationship.
God’s love is not conditional – whatever we do, God continues to love us. There is no barrier that we can construct that God’s love cannot get around. It is this sort of love that the new commandment demands of us.
Love surrounds us all the time. It is impossible to turn on a radio without hearing ‘love’ used in one way or another. Love is the most common theme of songs, poetry, literature and art. Although we might bemoan the casual use of ‘love’, the fact remains that we fill our lives with the sounds and images of love.
As Christian people, the challenge that faces us is to imbue these expressions with a richer, deeper notion of love.

Understanding Prayer
People pray for a variety of reasons.
Prayer involves talking, listening and responding to God. Jesus taught us to pray to the Father, to pray to him, to pray every day, to pray with others, to pray alone and to pray before meals.
For our students at St Anne's, the act of praying and knowing what we are praying for is very important. In our school day, there are many opportunities for our students to pray. Is it not about how many prayers we say, it is about the quality of the prayer experience and the intention. Whether it be for our loved ones, our parents, our teachers, our world leaders, the sick or even ourselves, our God hears our prayers.

Have a great week everyone.

Stuart.

PE in Term 2
This Term of PE is focussed on training and refining skills for the Track and Field Athletics Carnival in week 9, Wednesday 15th June. Each week, students are explicitly taught a new skill, such as Shot Put, Discus, High Jump, Sprints, Relays, Ball games etc. They will showcase these skills for all to see at our Athletics Carnival.
Please ensure all students are wearing supportive black school shoes, along with their school hat and a water bottle ready to succeed in PE. We are planning to use the school oval for PE once the weather allows.
YOU for 2032
Queensland Representative School Sport wish to advise you about the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-wide talent identification opportunity that could potentially see students on a pathway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
This program is called Youfor2032 and is designed to unearth the next generation of elite Queensland athletes who have the potential to win on the world stage, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are up to 15 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports looking to match their best coaches with Queensland’s best talent. It doesn’t matter if students have experience in any of these sports. Athletic ability coupled with a great attitude and supportive parents or guardians are the key ingredients needed to excel in this program.
Those successful in being selected for Youfor2032 will receive expert training, coaching and development support, from State and National Sporting Organisations as well as the QAS.
This could be the first step in an incredible journey for our students.

Newsletter Report By Mitchell | Firstly, I would like to congratulate all students for being responsible and not running on the cement during the rainy weather.
I have seen rubbish floating around the under croft. If you have finished eating and no one has bought the rubbish bag around just go and see the teacher on duty and ask them if can take around the rubbish bag for them.
As always make sure to listen to your teacher’s instructions.
Hope you had a great weekend.
