From The Principal
Lent has begun and this is a good time to do soul searching. In a recent Gospel, we saw Jesus tempted in the desert – feeling all the liabilities and weaknesses of being human. Then in the following Sunday’s Gospel, we saw him bathed in glory, showing just what is the goal of human life – living in the love and glory of God. If we want to come to the richest of lives, we need to ask what we want and how we would deal with difficulties and challenges
Consider an area in your life where you sense there could be a problem, maybe your child having reading difficulties, maybe a problem with communication in your family. Ignoring it won’t help, jumping in impulsively will probably make it worse. But thinking and praying about it could give you a strategy to deal with it.
Start by asking, what do I ultimately want? What is stopping it happening? What can I do to make it happen in spite of the difficulties? Do I need to get help? If Jesus had to strategise, as he did in the desert, we can be pretty sure we need to do the same. Just stopping, thinking, and praying makes us open to possibilities for change, and gives God room to move in our lives.
How is your life going? Do you take the time to reflect on how you can better deal with difficulties and challenges? I would love to hear from you if you wish to share what you do.

The Good News
Sunday's Gospel Reflection

In the reading from Luke, some people come to ask Jesus about a tragedy that has happened to some Galileans who have been killed and their blood sacrificed to the Roman gods. Jesus tries to correct their mistaken idea that people who experience such disasters and accidents are sinners. At the same time, Jesus warns them to take a close look at their lives and to reform their ways because sin will be punished.
Jesus then tells the parable of the fig tree, combining a call to reform with a message of hope. Would you keep a fruit tree in your yard if it never gave you any fruit? The vinedresser in the parable continues to care for the fig tree just as God continues to care for us when we sin.
Lent is a good time to examine the fruit of our life and to ask God’s help to prune away the dead branches so that we can bear fruit again.
Luke's Gospel reminds us:
• Reform our ways.
• Stand on holy ground.
• Bear some fruit.
• Is our life fruitless?
• Don’t fall for judging others.

Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ESCI) @ St Anne's

One of the most important things about being a Catholic school in the 21st century is knowing who we are and what purpose we serve. We need to have a clear understanding of our role as a Catholic school.
To assist with this and as an important part of our School Improvement process, St Anne’s will shortly participate in a Catholic Identity survey which is conducted by Leuven University in Belgium. This survey is The research project is aimed at assisting us with understanding how our Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice as well as supporting plans to further enhance our Catholic Identity for the future.
All staff and students from 5 to 6 will participate in the survey at school. We would also like to give parents a voice by inviting and encouraging you to take part in the survey, which will be conducted online and is not identifiable.
As our token of appreciation for your support, St Anne’s will provide a ‘pizza party’ for the class that has the highest number of parents who have completed the survey. Once you have completed the survey, if you could please take a print screen or print off a copy of the completion page and send it to the school office.
Please keep an eye out for further information through the school newsletter.

UNDERSTANDING THE SCALES
Post Critical Belief Scale
This scale looks at the cognitive belief styles, and is referred to as the Post Critical Belief Scale or PCB Scale. The PCB Scale will assist schools in profiling and measuring the different attitudes toward religion within the school community
The Melbourne Scale
This Scale examines the identity options available to Catholic educational organisations and distinguishes the five different ways of establishing Catholic Identity in a secularising and pluralising context
Victoria Scale
This scale looks at the pedagogical school identity options; this is referred to as the Victoria Scale. The Victoria scale explores the ways in which a Catholic school, in a multicultural and multi-religious society manages the twofold challenge of defining its individual character as well as expressing solidarity.

Have a great week! God's love, peace and blessings to all in our St Anne's community,
Stuart.

Environmental News From 2H
In Year 2 H we are Reef Rangers who try to take care of the environment. We also like to help people and assist them, through our actions, to see that others can be kind and compassionate. Each day year 2H students put on their orange vests and collect cans, poppers and bottles from around the school, so that they can be recycled. When our collection bin is full it is taken to the recycling depot, where each container is worth 10 cents. Last Friday, due to these efforts, Year 2H were able to give $130.00 to the Missions, hopefully making a difference in people's lives.
Year 2H also have a worm farm to use up food waste, which turns into worm tea. This liquid is excellent fertiliser and helps to make plants grow. Both of these projects assist with learning in many ways. Some learning areas include Religion, Science, Mathematics, Technology and English. If you are a keen gardener and would like some fertiliser from the worm farm, please contact us.
