Principal's Messages
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE | St Anne’s Catholic Primary School wishes to advise you that, during the past week, we have been notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community.
St Anne’s regularly consults with the Catholic Education Office and relevant authorities, and continues to follow the advice of Queensland Health regarding cleaning requirements.
As COVID-19 remains active in our community we ask you to continue to monitor your child’s/children’s health and if they develop any flu-like symptoms:
- Keep your child/children at home
- Seek a PCR or Rapid Antigen test where it is recommended and notify the school of positive results. Please be aware, a negative COVID test does not change the requirement to be symptom free to attend school.
- Follow the advice of Queensland Health
As we continue to navigate the pandemic, please remind your child/ren to:
- maintain good hand hygiene at all times
- cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow and dispose of tissues in the bin immediately.
- practice social distancing from others where possible
- wear masks when required
Please also inform us if any of our students contract COVID-19 as a result of being first placed in isolation.
We will continue to work closely with health authorities to keep our school community informed of any developments and advice. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.
THANK YOU MRS FORD | Many thanks to Mrs Ford for leading us in our annual Cross Country event - the results of this are elsewhere in the newsletter. Your dedication to ensuring it ran smoothly is a testament to your leadership in this space - thank you very much Mrs Ford.
FORMER STUDENTS DO WORK EXPERIENCE AT ST ANNE'S | Last week we were very lucky to have two former students return to St Anne's, but this time as a staff member. Last week we welcomed Sharkira Heyward and Demi Anderson to staff. Whilst here these young ladies made a very positive impression upon the staff and the students with whom they worked. We thank them for their dedication and wish them well in their studies ahead.

Bishop's Inservice Pupil Free Day 1st April
The Bishop's Inservice Pupil Free Day is the 1st April, which is the last day of Term One. Students will finish the term on Thursday 31st March.
The NCCD

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability who receive adjustments to enable them to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards), Australian students with disability must be able to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
To ensure this, students with disability may receive adjustments to access education, based on the professional judgement of teachers, in consultation with the student and/or their parents, guardians or carers.
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) gives Australian schools, parents, guardians and carers, education authorities and the community information about the number of students with disability in schools and the adjustments they receive. The Australian Education Regulation 2013 requires all schools to report the data collected for the NCCD to the Australian Government on an annual basis.
What are my school’s obligations under the legislation?
The Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards) require that all Australian schools:
- ensure that students with disability are able to access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability
- make or provide 'reasonable adjustments' for students where necessary to enable their access and participation
- provide reasonable adjustments in consultation with the student and/or their associates; for most students, this means their parents, guardians or carers.
The teachers at St Anne’s may be contacting parents shortly if your child is on our NCCD data collection. They will explain the goals and adjustments for your child and then get you to sign an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This is a great time to have a conversation with your teacher about your child and how the teachers are making adjustments so that your child can be the best learner that he or she can be. If anyone would like to contact me at any time, I am happy to explain if needed.

NAPLAN 2022- Year 3 and Year 5
Our NAPLAN testing window is nearly upon us! Each year, our Year 3 and 5 students sit the NAPLAN tests, and several years ago, St Anne's transitioned to conducting these assessments online. We have a window of time to timetable these assessments in, which gives us the flexibility to work around other events in our timetable. There are 4 tests in total: writing, reading, language conventions (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and mathematics. The school analyses the NAPLAN data once it is received, and this guides us on the areas for improvement in our practices. This is then one tool that is used to guide our professional development and curriculum focus for the following year.
In preparation for the official testing sessions in May, schools run a practice test, to familiarise teachers and students with the process, and to check our bandwidth, and gives us an opportunity to fix anything that needs adjusting. In previous years, our NAPLAN testing has gone smoothly, thanks to the teamwork of our staff, including our IT department!
This year, the Year 3 practice test will be conducted on Friday 25th March at 9am, and Year 5's will run through their practice test on Tuesday 29th March, at 11.30am. The time for these will be advertised in next week's newsletter. The practice tests are a sample of questions across all areas and no data is collected.
Parents do have the opportunity to withdraw their students from the NAPLAN testing- a note was sent home last week with our Year 3 and 5 students explaining how to do this, and the guidelines to follow when making this choice. If you have questions about NAPLAN, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or your child's classroom teacher.
The Good News

Sunday's Gospel Reflection
God’s voice from the cloud claims Jesus as his Son, the Chosen One and then goes on to instruct those present – and we, the readers – to ‘Listen to him!’
For the disciples, this was a message not to get carried away with their own ideas about the Messiah but to listen to what Jesus was saying about the suffering he must endure and to what he was saying about true discipleship.
Jesus tells us that to be a follower of his involves sacrifice, hardship and often unpopularity. It is this message we must listen to as much as the promise of salvation.
We are reminded that:
• God keeps promises.
• God is our light.
• Look toward heaven.
• We are transformed with Jesus.
• We need to listen to Jesus.

Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) @ St Anne's
We need your input!
One of the most important things about being a Catholic school in the 21st century is knowing who we are and what purpose we serve. We need to have a clear understanding of our role as a Catholic school.
To assist with this and as an important part of our School Improvement process, St Anne’s will shortly participate in a Catholic Identity survey which is conducted by Leuven University in Belgium. This survey is The research project is aimed at assisting us with understanding how our Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice as well as supporting plans to further enhance our Catholic Identity for the future.
All staff and students from 5 to 6 will participate in the survey at school. We would also like to give parents a voice by inviting and encouraging you to take part in the survey, which will be conducted online and is not identifiable.
As our token of appreciation for your support, St Anne’s will provide a ‘pizza party’ for the class that has the highest number of parents who have completed the survey. Once you have completed the survey, if you could please take a print screen or print off a copy of the completion page and send it to the school office.
Please keep an eye out for further information through the school newsletter.

District Sports Trials
Sporting Trials are off to a great start for 2022. St Anne's students aged 10-12 years are invited to trial in sports they have much experience with, in attempt to make selection for Sarina District teams, Mackay District teams, Capricornia teams and Qld State Teams.
We are exceptionally proud of our students who've nominate for their preferred sports, taking the sometimes-nerve-wracking leap to attend local trials. While not all St Anne's students make selection on to the next level, the experience they gain from participating and values they learn are life-long. "Sometimes we win......Sometimes we learn!"
On behalf of the student, staff, and parent community of St Anne's I would like to make special mention of the following students.
Skylynn Garcia participated in the Mackay District Swimming time trial for Capricornia selection earlier this term. Skylynn attended this trial alongside a wide range of swimming talent from Mackay and surrounding districts. We are proud of you Skylynn!
Ahlara Keating, Neena Payne, Elita McDonald, Mia Zaro and Summer Vaughan trialled in Sarina District Netball earlier in the Term. They represented our school and themselves to a very high standard. Well done girls!
Neena Payne and Elita McDonald participated in Mackay and District Netball trials on Monday afternoon after successful selection in the Sarina District team. Their journey did not continue onto the Mackay team but they should be very proud of their accomplishments.
Mitchell Adams participated in Sarina District Rugby League trials last Thursday afternoon and successfully made the Sarina team. He will trial for Mackay team on Wednesday 15th March.
Stacey Gill, Gus Goodman and Ben Mifsud are participating in Sarina District Soccer trials on Tuesday 14th March. We wish them all the best!
Cross Country
Last Friday 11th March we saw all students from P-6 participate in our school cross country. P-3 students enjoyed an obstacle course, tug of war, parachute games and relay races. Year 4-6 students ran the cross country course of 2 or 3km. I'm sure anyone who witnessed their running efforts on Friday can say every student gave their 100% best effort.
A very big thank you to our volunteer parents who assisted the set up, pack up and provided support to the runners along the course. Thank you Renae Benson, Sonja Renehan and Tainie, Sandra Adams, Jodie Zaro and Neville Huddleston. It was heart-warming to finally welcome family members on school grounds as supporters! As well as all the enthusiastic Teacher Aides and Teachers, special mention to Mrs Dickens for running the course with 2 of our students. Thank you to Mr Craig Muddle from Plane Creek Mill for the use of the mill grounds. As always, he was very willing to accommodate our request.
Congratulations to the following students;
Hudson Vaughn, Lucas Borg, Dylan Gill, Lani Keia, Paislee Coben, Gerogia Bannister, Mitchell Adams, Carter Renehan, Wyatt Huddleston, Noah Galletly, Riley Gibson, Lily Norrie, Ahlara Keating, Jemma Mortimer, Tatum Wellings, Dane Micallef, Ben Mifsud, Brady Alford, Gus Goodman, Elita McDonald, Charlotte Benson, Lilly Hazel, Skylynn Garcia and Summer Vaughan will be heading to Sarina District trials on Wednesday 23rd March at Sarina Golf Course. This is a very tough running course, which our students no doubt will tackle with the same determination and endurance. We wish these representative runners all the best!
