Catholic Identity – We Need Your Input
One of the most important things about being a Catholic school in the 21st century is knowing who we are and what purpose we serve. We need to have a clear understanding of our role as a Catholic school.
To assist with this and as an important part of our School Improvement process, St Anne's will shortly participate in a Catholic Identity survey which is conducted by Leuven University in Belgium. The research project is aimed at assisting us with understanding how our Catholic identity is expressed in work and practice as well as supporting plans to further enhance our Catholic Identity for the future.
All staff and students from 5 to 6 will participate in the survey at school. We would also like to give parents a voice by inviting and encouraging you to take part in the survey, which will be conducted online and is not identifiable.
Please keep an eye out for further information both from Mr Presley and through the school newsletter.

R U OK? CARDS FROM ST ANNE'S | The pandemic is causing millions to feel an unprecedented amount of stress; this impacts mental health.
Last year we were gifted many cards by newsXpress Sarina which we intended to use in the wider Sarina community around checking if people were OK, in conjunction with the R U OK? philosophy.
These R U OK cards reminds us to check in to see how people are really going. We are reminded that it is important to connect with those around us and to start meaningful conversations especially if we see someone who may be struggling.
It makes us recognise that life’s ups and downs can happen to anyone, so chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.
The students and staff at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School want to ask the question today “Are you OK?”
We sincerely thank newsXpress Sarina for their part in this wonderful community connection.

Across The Curriculum
ICAS 2021
Each year, we have a number of students who sit the ICAS competitions and assessments. Due to COVID being quite prevalent down south, the spelling and writing ICAS tests were delayed until our last weeks of school in 2021.
Our final two certificates arrived in the post recently- and we would like to congratulate Adalyn Corbett and Nataya Fewquandie who both received participation certificates in spelling. Well done ladies and thank you for waiting so patiently for your certificates to arrive. These will be presented at this week's assembly.
Further information about the 2022 competitions will be shared as it becomes available, and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of this year's participants!
NAPLAN 2022- Year 3 and Year 5
Our NAPLAN testing window is nearly upon us! Each year, our Year 3 and 5 students sit the NAPLAN tests, and several years ago, St Anne's transitioned to conducting these assessments online. We have a window of time to timetable these assessments in, which gives us the flexibility to work around other events in our timetable. There are 4 tests in total: writing, reading, language conventions (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and mathematics. The school analysises the NAPLAN data once it is received, and this guides us on the areas for improvement in our practices. This is then one tool that is used to guide our professional development and curriculum focus for the following year.
In preparation for the official testing sessions in May, schools run a practice test, to familiarise teachers and students with the process, and to check our bandwith, and gives us an opportunity to fix anything that needs adjusting. In previous years, our NAPLAN testing has gone smoothly, thanks to the teamwork of our staff, including our IT department!
This year, the Year 3 practice test will be conducted on Friday 25th March, and Year 5's will run through their practice test on Tuesday 29th March. The time for these will be advertised in next week's newsletter. The practice tests are a sample of questions across all areas and no data is collected.
Parents do have the opportunity to withdraw their students from the NAPLAN testing- a note will be sent home with our Year 3 and 5 students in the coming days explaining this, and the guidelines to follow when making this choice. Please look out for this very important note in the school bags! If you have questions about NAPLAN, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or your child's classroom teacher.
Have a great week!

The Good News
Sunday's Gospel Reflection

The reading from the Gospel of Luke recounts in some detail Jesus’ run-in with the devil in the desert. Jesus had gone into the desert to fast and pray before beginning his public ministry in earnest. After forty days, Jesus must have been tired and hungry. Of course, the devil shows up for Jesus at the same times he shows up for us – the times when we are most vulnerable.
First, the devil tempts Jesus to turn stones into bread. Jesus knows bread is not everything, and he gives the devil a Scripture lesson.
Second, the devil offers to give up his power if Jesus will worship him. The devil’s next lesson from Jesus is on the Commandments – love God and God only.
Finally, the devil tempts Jesus to test God’s love for his Son. It is the devil who fails this test about God’s love.
Temptations are a daily fact of life. Jesus shows us how to respond to them.
During the season of Lent, we are reminded:
- Leave the devil in the desert.
- Beat temptation.
- Remember and celebrate
- It is the Lord who gets us out of trouble.
- Believe and witness our faith

The Season of Lent

WELCOME TO PROJECT COMPASSION 2022!
Caritas Australia is the international aid and development organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia and is part of one of the largest aid and development networks in the world –Caritas Internationalis –working in over 200 countries and territories.
Each year, Project Compassion runs during the six weeks of the Church season of Lent. They invite people across Australia to help raise funds AND stand in solidarity with the millions of people across the world with whom they work. Their goal is for people to join with them in building a more just and fairer world: a world in balance, at peace and free of poverty.
Project Compassion is an opportunity for students to learn about life in different countries through the personal stories of people who have participated in Caritas Australia-supported programs.
The theme of Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For All Future Generations’. It is an expression of hope and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.
This year’s theme comes from the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. Mores pecifically, when the flood waters subsided, a dove returned with an olivebranch indicating a new beginning. God set a rainbow in the sky as a signof a special and unbreakable relationship with the human family and the entire earth.
God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations.’
Genesis 9:12

Please keep in your prayers this week the people of Ukraine as they strive for peace and justice. We also pray for those affected by illness and natural disasters here in our own community and in Queensland.
God's love, peace and blessings,
Stuart.
