COMPASSION FOR CHRISTMAS | Christmas is coming and the pressure is on…for us to come up with the perfect gift, meal, gesture and yes indeed, the perfect family. That’s what the ads are telling us…in your dreams, or rather your delusions. Let’s be honest, Christmas is a minefield that challenges us in so many different ways: money (or lack of), cooking skills (ditto) and let’s not get started on the difficult family members. Maybe we are even that person! So let’s step away from the false ideals and delusions and consider what Jesus came to offer us and what we and others really need: compassion. Jesus came to give us the compassion of God and as we receive it, so we are to share.
The St Vincent de Paul Society has launched their Christmas appeal, which you will hear about from your child/ren and from the school. Here we are called to help those who are obviously less well off than ourselves. This is a good place to begin, and what we give will make a difference in ways we may never know.
But we don’t stop there. Give compassion to your family and friends. Nobody ‘needs’ fancy gifts or expensive food, but we all hunger for a thoughtful gesture and to be served with love. If we start our Christmas preparations with compassion, with feeling for others, we begin a revolution in how we celebrate. Out go the unreal expectations that make us feel inadequate and depressed. In comes tenderness. If God loved the world, in all its weakness and failure, so much that he gave us Jesus, maybe this Christmas we can cut ourselves a little slack and be compassionate to all…ourselves included.
Loving Father, you sent Jesus to show your compassion to all. May I know his love with me, and as I begin my Christmas preparations, may compassion be the guiding light in all that I do for my family and friends. I ask this in Jesus’ name confident that you will hear me. Sr Kym Harris osb

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
End Of Year Concert Plans A & B | Due to the current weather issues, with rain and storms possible next week, and ongoing Covid restrictions, we have needed to plan for two separate scenarios for our end of year concert.
Plan A
If the weather stays fine our end of year concert will be held on Wednesday 1st December commencing at 5:30pm. It will be a whole of school event held on the school oval, so please bring chairs and picnic rugs for seating.
Plan B
In the case of inclement weather on Wednesday night we will hold the end of year concert on Thursday 2nd December in the school hall. Due to scheduling clashes on Thursday night the concert will be held in school time. Due to Covid restrictions we will need to present each class's item at a separate time with parents only allowed to attend their child's performance. A decision will be made on Wednesday if the concert is to be rescheduled and if so, we will send out a list of performance times for the Thursday.
Obviously Plan B is not ideal so please join us in praying for fine weather on Wednesday night.

St Anne’s Swimming Carnival 2021
Last Wednesday we held the St Anne’s Swimming Carnival. Thankfully the weather turned out a perfect Queensland sunny day and the pool was filled with students swimming their hardest.
With the new format, where parents didn’t have to pre-nominate their children for events and students being automatically entered into all events, we ended up with more competitors than we’ve had in a long time.
I was so proud to see a pool full of kids attempting the butterfly, with many already developing the required rhythm and technique needed for such a difficult stroke.
Many thanks to all who helped organize and run this event. Many hands really do make light work.
McAuley came away with the win, along with the following students taking out Age Champion:
9yr old male: Hudson Vaughan
9yr old female: Georgia Bannister
10yr old male: Carter Renehan
10yr old female: Lily Norrie
11yr old male: Zachary Grech
11yr old female: Lilly Hazel
12yr old male: Matthew Fenech
12yr old female: Brianna Renehan
- The students were asked on Friday to let me know if they thought they might be missing ribbons. While we strive our best to keep everything organized on such a busy day, some ribbons may have been missed in all the handling and we don’t want anyone missing out. Some of the races were held in heats, and sometimes students were racing at the same time as another age group, when there weren’t enough students to fill the lanes (although their times were only taken against their own age group).
Yours in sport,
Ally Grech

Library News
Outstanding Library Books | All school library borrowing has now finished for the year. Please make sure all outstanding library books are returned as soon as possible so stocktake can commence. If any books that a child borrowed aren't returned, it will be the parent's responsibility to pay for the cost of replacement, so please have a good look around both at home and in the classroom for any books that you may have missed.

End of Year Tuckshop Changes
As we are approaching the end of the year the tuckshop will be only doing a small number of specials due to reducing stock for the Christmas period. Over the coming weeks you may notice some items go out of stock & this means they will continue to be out of stock for the remainder of the term! We thank you for understanding! Don’t forget to order your tuckshop through Flexischools by 7:30am on tuckshop day or place cash and order details in a brown paper bag and send to school with your child.
The tuckshop will be closed for cleaning on the last day of school, Friday 3rd December. If you can help with cleaning, please contact Ingrid on 0448456599.

Newsletter Report By Brianna | I would like to thank everyone for participating in our St Anne’s swimming carnival. You did very well and tried your best. I would also like to thank the teachers and adults who helped at the event. The grounds have been really tidy and I hope that it stays like that for the rest of the term. The year is nearly finished but that does not mean you don’t follow the school rules. Just a reminder that last Friday the grade fivers did their leadership speeches and they did extremely well. You guys should be proud of yourselves.
