T4 W4 Newsletter 2021
From The Principal
Thanks to our Staff - all of our staff!
One of the most interesting, and some would say challenging, impacts of Covid-19 was the experience of parents taking on the role of teaching, or at least supervising the lessons of, their children when they were unable to attend school in person. Appreciation of the work of teachers and teacher assistants grew as parents experienced just what they did, day in and day out, with multiple children with widely varying personalities and needs. Yes, many, many parents appreciated this precious time with their children but even they were among the many glad to see their children return to school. While it may have been a challenge teaching the children, preparing online lessons was a wholly different challenge for the teachers themselves.
This coming Friday Australia celebrates World Teachers Day. As a staff we celebrate it differently and make it inclusive of all our staff. Now that we have taken stock of the experience, we have an opportunity to thank all our stafffor all that they have done and will continue to do. Rather than a generic Thank You which is no doubt welcome, perhaps you could think about your experience of walking, or rather teaching, in their shoes and thank them for that explicitly. Something along the lines, ‘I thank you for your insight in teaching Sally her long division. I realise now how she struggled.’ Or, ‘Thank you for being so patience with Bob – I realise now how restless he gets.’
You know your child, and what particular challenges they offer in the learning space. When we give thanks to someone, it is wonderful if we can add something specific in our thanks, something that says, ‘I really have seen what you have brought to this situation.’
Being made in the image and likeness of God, we are made to give thanks and to praise – not just to God but to the people through whom we experience goodness and generosity. As we thank some people for some specific things, our capacity for gratefulness grows and with that our capacity for joy and happiness.
Loving God, we thank you for the work of our teachers. May your blessings be with them and may we grow in appreciation of all that they do. We ask this in Jesus’ name, confident that you will hear us.

Sunday's Gospel Reflection - Mark 10:46-52
Jesus gives sight to Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus’ popularity increases immediately with the attention he receives from Jesus. One minute the crowd is scolding him to keep quiet, the next minute they are reassuring him and urging him to go to Jesus.
Jesus’ gift to Bartimaeus is not only his sight but also his status in the community. By reaching out to the outcasts of society, Jesus brings general acceptance to them.
How might you be able to bring general acceptance to the ‘outcasts’ at your school or work?
What would happen if those people seen as unpopular were suddenly being given sincere attention and friendship by popular people?
Bartimaeus’ response to Jesus’ healing is to become his follower. Jesus tells him, ‘Be on your way’. Bartimaeus chooses then to follow the way of Jesus.
If Bartimaeus had been given sight, and yet failed to recognise God’s blessings in his life, would that have been much of a success story?
You have been given many blessings by God.
Do you always recognise your good fortune?
Are you grateful to God for all you have?
How are you a success story?
What response would Jesus want you to give, as a demonstration of your thankfulness for all you have been blessed with?
When Jesus encounters Bartimaeus he is sitting by the side of the road – a reject of society sitting off to the side as the world passes him by. There are times in all of our lives when we feel like this: hurt; ashamed; unloved; rejected; cast aside. It is at these moments in our lives that Jesus really wants to ‘break through’ into our experience. If we allow ourselves to hear his voice calling us to him, then we too can ‘throw off our cloak’ – our old life – and join him on the road.

Parish News
Passing of Fr Rod Dela Rosa
We've received the sad news that Fr Rod has passed away whilst on home leave to the Philippines. Fr Rod was a priest here in the Mackay Southern Cluster and in other parishes within the Diocese of Rockhampton. Let us remember Fr Rod in our prayers and also his brothers of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) Fathers.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
~Amen~

Newsletter Report By Anthony | We had our NAIDOC celebration this past week, along with swimming, but just because you are not wearing you school uniform or doing schoolwork you still need to remember that you are a part of the school. Friday night was also our school disco. To finish off I would like to say that the grounds are nice and tidy but there’s always room for improvements. I hope you had a good weekend.
Newsletter Report By Renae | I have noticed that there is a small amount of rubbish in the eating area. This needs to be picked up soon before the birds eat it. I would like to talk about practicing PE dances in the hall. This is a reminder that you can only practice on a Tuesday and Wednesday at first break. Also, you need to be wearing your uniform correctly and on the right days.
