TEACHERS HAVE REAL IMPACT | Olympic champion Cathy Freeman says her Grade 1 teacher Mrs Baldry is the woman who got her to run. If you can, please watch this video; this is Cathy chatting with Mrs Baldry.
I had the good fortune to teach with Bessie Baldry and she was certainly a livewire. Often, when sitting at the staff table Bessie would reminisce of her earlier teaching days and one of those stories was about Cathy Freeman. Bessie is currently living in Mackay and enjoying retirement.

The following video is such a beautiful true story! As educators we all have to look at what’s behind every action and word; there’s always something more! How awesome was Mr Jensen that he saw beyond what meets the eye….. Everyday I challenge myself to be the sort of teacher I wished I had when I was younger.
Inspirational Video- Be a Mr. Jensen- MUST WATCH!! - YouTube
I recently had a Mrs Baldry moment (though not of the same magnitude) where a past student of mine sought me out and we had dinner together. It was so lovely catching up with Tomm who has so much planned for his life. Our time together was short, but for me so meaningful.
When I think of the teachers I've had that have impacted me I honestly can't remember the content they taught. All of these teachers impacted me in a way that I will never forget. What I remember is how they made me feel; how they listened; how they helped me. Their love, compassion and support did not go unnoticed. I have many wonderful teachers from high school that I fondly remember and also some from primary school. It is interesting that I have also kept in touch with a few of my teachers. Their impacts have been so important to my development.
Although I may not have realized it at the time, all of the teachers who taught me were shaping me into the teacher that I am today. A little compassion and care goes a long way when it comes to children.
Who was your Mrs Baldry or Mr Jensen? If you have the time I would love to hear your story.

Internet Safety
There are a number of apps and games available on devices that are not appropriate for students to be using on their own, unsupervised and or to have their own account.
In the past, the St Anne's leadership team have had to investigate complaints of inappropriate use of technology by students outside of school hours. These situations can be avoided if parents are actively supervising children on a device and do not allow their children to have accounts or access to the apps and games that are not suitable.
In the event of inappropriate use, it needs to be reported to the app company immediately. It is not always a school responsibility to deal with inappropriate technology use outside school hours. The app companies have ways that people can report harassment and inappropriate behaviour.
Below is a list of the commonly used apps and also their age rating restriction. Parents and carers are encouraged to read through these and also take the time to discuss this with your children. Further resources from the Carly Ryan Foundation can be accessed at https://www.carlyryanfoundation.com/

Across The Curriculum
NAPLAN
Our NAPLAN student reports have arrived in the mail and we will endeavour to send them home as soon as possible- we copy them for our files, which makes it handy if parents ever need a copy down the track.
Overall, we are very pleased with our results, remembering that these assessments are a 'snapshot in time'. We congratulate our Year 3 and 5 students, who gave the NAPLAN tests their best shot. Schools use this data to find areas for school improvement, and our Leadership Team look forward to analysing the school data to guide our 2022 curriculum goals.
Here are some photos from Year 5 camp!

Sunday's Gospel Reflection - Mark 8:27-35
A follower of Christ must take up the cross

‘But you, who do you say I am?’
This would have to be one of the most powerful questions of the gospels. It echoes down the centuries and is just as relevant today as it ever was. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Our answer to that question is perhaps the most revealing statement of our faith. Our answer no doubt changes over time as we grow in understanding and as we experience the ups and downs of life, but nonetheless, just like Peter in the gospel passage, our answer remains a clear statement of our faith.
‘Who do you say I am?’ Just a good guy who lived 2,000 years ago? A role model? A friend? God made flesh? The Word come down from heaven? Nobody? Everybody? Our saviour? An inspired man of God? The Messiah?
Perhaps you’ve never tried to actually answer the question yourself. It is a confronting question, ‘Who do you say I am?’ It’s confronting because, as Christian people, we believe that our actions are a reflection of our beliefs and values. It’s confronting because whatever we say in answer to that question has implications for the way we live. ‘Who do you say I am?’ You see, the question is in the present tense, not the past. It doesn’t ask ‘Who do you say I was?’; it asks, ‘Who do you say I AM?’
The very question asks us to recognise that Jesus was not just some guy who lived 2,000 years ago but rather someone who continues to be a presence in our lives today. And he stands before each and every one of us today and asks that same, demanding, confronting, purposeful question: ‘Who do YOU say I am?’
When Peter answers Jesus’ question he demonstrates the disciples’ dawning awareness of Jesus’ true identity. It is the first occasion that the disciples are called to own what they think about Jesus. However, when Jesus begins to spell out what being the Messiah reality means – persecution and death – Peter tries to convince Jesus that he doesn’t need to go down that path. Jesus turns on Peter and snaps, ‘Get behind me, Satan!’ It is a reminder of the desert temptation Jesus had to face at the start of his ministry when he wrestled with what sort of messiah he was called to be.

Making Jesus Real with GTS and WEST

As we approach the end of another busy and productive term, it has been great to see across our school the positive and Christ like ways our students interact with their peers and staff. As mentioned in previous newsletters, it is important to acknowledge others so we can learn from their example.
Where have we seen MJR at St Anne's?
- Our Year 6 students greeting everyone as they walk into the school making them feel welcome
- Mrs Grimmond and Mrs Vassallo greeting and treating all who enter the office and school with kindness and respect
- Our teacher assistants and support staff who work very closely with teachers and students by supporting and encouraging them
- Our teachers who continue to see the good in all our students and encourage them to be the best they can be
- Our students who treat their peers and teachers with respect, use their manners and use kind words.
- Mr Bisseker for the work he does looking after our school grounds and caring for God's creation
Thank you to everyone for striving to Make Jesus Real!

Week 9 Attendance Data

Is attendance at school expected right up to and including the last day of term?
The answer is Yes!
In the last week of term, our students are still learning. They are finishing off classwork, assessment items and commencing new units of work. If students are commencing 'early holidays', the school needs to be notified and assessment items completed before leaving. It is not always possible for them to catch up when they return.
