From The Principal
Report Cards are upon us once again! At this time of year, it is opportune to reflect on how children are going and just how you can get that little bit more from them. I happened across an article entitled, “Helping Your Child at School” that came from a book called ‘A Parent Survival Kit.’ The tips that it provides are effective ones in getting the most out of your child and school.
Be Informed Listen to your child, read notices and newsletters, and if possible, attend meetings.
Be Positive A negative and sour attitude will not help your child succeed at school
Be Co-operative Ask the teacher how you can help at school and how you can help your child.
Be Assertive Speak up for yourself and your child; express your own feelings and ideas directly, but not in an angry, aggressive way.
Don’t be a Gossip If there’s a problem don’t talk to everyone about it. Just share it with the trusted few who will give helpful advice AND then see the right person at this school.
Be Friendly Write letters of thanks and appreciation. All teachers, TAs and principals need encouragement.
Children only get one go at being a child and in receiving an education. It is therefore up to each one of us (parents and teachers alike) to make sure that it will be the best education we can provide. It is this partnership between home and school that will ensure that we will achieve our hopes and dreams for these children, and help them achieve their own hopes and dreams.
I urge you to discuss with your child their report card when it comes home this week via Parent Lounge, looking at the areas they did well in and the areas that they can put a little more effort in next term. There is always room for improvement but there is also a real need to give praise and recognition when and where it is due!
Principal's Messages
ST ANNE'S TRACK & FIELD | A big thank you goes out to all the parents and staff who helped in any way with the running of our Athletics Carnival last week. Much planning always goes on behind the scenes for a day such as this to run smoothly. Predominately Mrs Jenny Place and Mrs Lisa Vernon were at the helm this year coordinating the day. For that we are grateful and thankful. Thank you, Dr January, for stepping into the role of time keeper for all the running races and to the other parents who stepped into roles in the field events as needed. To all those who assisted with setting up and packing down, thank you. Without you all we would not be able to run a successful carnival. A special thank you, to our Tuckshop coordinator Ingrid Hanley and to Renae Benson, Lisa Keir, Sonja Renehan and Lucy Stowers who helped run the canteen. Your blood is worth bottling.
Term 2 finishes this Friday 25th June.
We hope you have a refreshing and relaxing holiday break and look forward to welcoming you back for Term 3 commencing Monday 12th July.

The Good News
Sundays's Gospel Reflection - Mark 4:35-41
Jesus stills the sea

Have you ever been in a boat when the waves were rough?
Have you ever been frightened about something?
What do you do when you are frightened?
Do you think Jesus can help when you are frightened? How?
This week’s passage includes one of the great nature miracles of Jesus – the calming of the storm. Some scripture scholars suggest that this story is a construction by the gospel writer to speak directly to the community for whom this gospel was written. The community of the gospel of Mark were consumed with doubt and surrounded by evidence of the world as they knew it falling apart. They were living the metaphor captured in the story: a boat adrift on the sea in the midst of an almighty storm.
The cry of the disciples was the cry of the Christian community: ‘Master, do you not care?’ They felt that God did not care about the turmoil that surrounded them. The gospel writer reassures them that God does care about their struggle but at the same time chastens them for their lack of faith!
The experience of the disciples as their boat was tossed about the sea by the powerful storm may sound like a familiar situation.
At times in life we may feel that we have lost control of our situation and we are being blown from one ‘disaster’ to the next.
At such times, we may find ourselves asking the question that the disciples asked of Jesus, ‘Master, do you not care?’
Jesus’ reply to the disciples suggests that had they been calm and trusted in the slow work of God then they would have made it through the storm unharmed.

Reminder
If families have any winter items they wish to donate to St Vincent de Paul's winter appeal, the last day for donation is Friday 25th June. Again thanks to our families for making Jesus real through demonstrating kindness and compassion to those in need.

Making Jesus Real through Catholic Social Teaching
A great way to Make Jesus Real during the school holiday break is to follow the Catholic social teaching of 'Care for Our Common Home'. We are challenged to think about everyone in our world, our choices affect others. Parents, feel free to send a picture to Mr Presley or Mr Oches showing how your children go about Making Jesus Real over the holiday break. We'll add these to our St Anne's Facebook page.

News from St Michael's Parish

Ordination of Fr Aswhin Acharya
Fr Ashwin was ordained as a priest on Thursday 17th June. Congraluations and God's blessings Fr Aswhin!
Our prayers are with you Fr Ashwin as you commence your priestly ministry proclaiming The Good News.
Fr Ashwin spent time in the Southern Cluster of Parishes back in 2019 whilst he was studying at the Seminary and continually speaks very fondly of this time in the region.
Bishop Michael has announced that Fr Ashwin will be returning to the Southern Cluster of Parishes until September before he commences his appointment to Gladstone. We welcome you again Fr Ashwin and look forward to seeing you again soon. We keep our priests - Fr Don, Fr Jayanthi, Fr Alex and Fr Alex - always in our prayers.
Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests.
Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests to be strong in their vocation.
Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel.
Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.
Amen.

Leadership is a quality that all students of St Anne's Catholic Primary School are encouraged and supported to develop. These experiences ensure that students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles and find their voice.

Newsletter Report By Brianna | This week I have noticed that the grounds have been a little dirty, please make sure we all put our rubbish in the bin and our poppers in the 10 cents container. On Wednesday we had our athletics carnival. Well done to all the people who participated and thank you teachers for helping. I would also like to thank the canteen lady for supplying all the yummy food for our athletic carnival. I have also noticed our behaviour has improved when the people on assembly tell us to sit silently.

Week 9 Attendance Data

Is attendance at school sports carnivals compulsory?
The answer is Yes!
These carnivals are compulsory whole school events and attendance is required like any regular school day. They are an excellent opportunity for all students to make their contribution to the St Anne's Catholic Primary School community and develop their relationships with peers and teachers.
Sports carnivals provide students with the opportunity to compete against each other in a friendly, competitive atmosphere. Although the best performers are rewarded with selection for higher representation, the core aim of carnivals is to maximise student enjoyment and participation in physical activity. Cheering, supporting and helping teachers with jobs is a great way to participate in the running of carnivals!
Sports carnivals are a great time to promote healthy lifestyle messages in our school community.
If your child asks for a day off school because "it's only the athletics carnival" or "it's only the swimming carnival", please remind them that sports carnivals are considered normal school days.
