T2 W4 Newsletter 2021
From The Principal
In the Diocese of Rockhampton, our Catholic Schools “exist not to be different but to make a difference”. This is the call made to all of our schools. Yes, we are different to the school down the road, but more than this, we have to make a difference to the lives of the children, the parents, the staff, the parish community and the wider community. We do this by who we are and by what we do.
Actions speak much louder than words. We have to be “doers” more than we are “sayers”. We have to give example and witness to the children around us (not just our own children either!).
So how is St Anne's Catholic Primary School “Making a Difference”? You can see tangible signs all around you – welcoming atmosphere, family orientation, justice, compassion, understanding, truth, forgiveness, academic excellence – the list goes on and on. Students, staff and parents can relay stories to you that will give testament to these signs. We see it in the relationships that form; in the words that are spoken, in the deeds that are done. We see it in ourselves and in those around us.
Based on the teachings of Jesus and supported by family and parish, we make a difference by …
- Giving active witness to our faith through prayer, worship and our individual relationships with others.
- Offering a range of opportunities and experiences while encouraging each child to develop to the best of their abilities.
- Offering students the chance to achieve excellence in learning, to learn the discipline and skills necessary to survive in and contribute to today’s world and to believe in themselves and have real hope for the future.
Together it is possible to make a difference. We can and we do! What is your part in this? Have a cuppa, allow yourself some thinking time and if you would like to share with me I would appreciate that.

The Good News

Sunday's Gospel Reflection - Sixth Sunday of Easter
In the reading from John’s Gospel, we learn that to love means to participate in the love between God the Father and Jesus. Jesus’ commandment is to ‘love one another as I have loved you’. In last week’s readings, our relationship with Jesus was described as branches on the vine. This week we are invited to be part of Jesus’ inner circle – one of his closest friends. We are called again to bear fruit by loving one another.
To be loved by someone else makes all the tough times endurable; it makes us believe in ourselves because someone else sees something worthwhile within us. It’s exciting and it’s incredibly life-giving!
This is something of the message that Jesus is trying to convey to his disciples in this week’s gospel. He is trying to share with them some understanding of the incredible joy he experiences through his relationship with the Father. And just as he is loved by the Father, so Jesus loves his disciples and so are they invited to share in the love of the Father.
Jesus’ whole mission and ministry was to share with people the love of God that he knew so intimately. His actions towards the ‘lesser ones’ of the world was to demonstrate to them that they are not only worthy of love but were already loved.
Jesus tells his disciples that all they have to do to constantly remain in his love is to keep his commandments and then he clarifies for them that his only commandment to them is to love one another as Jesus loved. To live in the love of Jesus and know the love of the Father, all we have to do is love one another. It seems simple.
The challenge is that we are to love all people – even those who make our lives difficult and unpleasant. As we are told in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, ‘If you love only those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them!’ (Lk 6:32; Mt 5:46)
