From The Principal
It is said that cousins are usually the first friends we have and that no one will understand you like they do.
I was blessed to grow up in a pretty tight extended family with my mum being the youngest of three sisters. After growing up and leaving home, the three sisters would bring their families back to grandma’s house where we would all connect. This became a very important part of my life and one which I hold dear today. Because of this, during my formative years I was lucky enough to have a lot of buddies to hang with; my cousins who would very quickly become my forever best friends, and the little cousins who made me know I wanted to be a teacher one day. They were the people that my brother, sister and I could count on at every family get together to run around with, sing songs and to laugh with. They made everything so much more fun. No matter how many hours away we lived it was always like we had never missed a day apart. There was no awkwardness, we just got each other.
My cousins and siblings have been my support system my entire life. Whilst we could fight like real siblings, we would then laugh it off the next day and stand up for each other against anyone else too.
They are the ones I call when I need words of encouragement and support, guidance and direction.
Being able to grow up close with my cousins will always be one of the things I cherish the most. I’m so grateful to have the relationship we do. What relationships are important in your life story? Who helped make you the person you are today?

School Fees Advice #2
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find below Advice #2, developed to inform our Catholic Education families of the new Federal Government Funding model (Gonski model) and the impact on funding for Catholic Schools. Advice #2 outlines State and Federal Government responsibility with Non-Government school funding and how parent community Capacity to Contribute (CTC) shapes School Fees. Advice #2 illustrates the relationship between the three funding sources in funding 100% of the School Resource Standard (SRS), and importantly explains how the total funding to Catholic Schools operates.

Across The Curriculum
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Today we are reading, 'Bowerbird Blues'.

ESTI MYSTERY #10
An ESTI mystery is a fantastic way to engage students at the beginning of the lesson.
Each image invites students to wonder what number is represented by the image. As you work through each Esti-Mystery, clues will appear that will allow the students to use math concepts to narrow the set of possibilities to a small set of numbers.
Have a chat with your child and discuss the possible answers to the below ESTI Mystery.
This will the last of our ESTI mysteries, stay tuned for next week's number talk!

DRUMROLL PLEASE....

P&F News
Sports News
Netball:
Firebirds:
The Firebirds played against Gators White this week and drew 4-4. The Firebirds played well with some great passing. A few minor injuries tested the resilience skills this week but the girls displayed excellent bouncing back skills and played on despite the setback.
Keep up the great work Firebirds.
Spirals:
Spirals had a great game on Thursday winning 11-1 against Chelona Sparkles. The team are playing together more cohesively and there is some great passing happening. The team are excited to have Lilly Hazel and Mrs Hazel helping with coaching. Welcome to the team.
On the 21st of May the Spirals will compete at the NQ Netball Queensland Primary Schools Gala Day in Mackay. It will be a big day of at least 5 games to be played. Good luck with the Gala, Spirals.
Soccer:
This week the Stars played two back to back games of soccer to catch up from a wash out. Didn’t that test the fitness and skills of the teachers this week? As usual, enthusiasm and laughter was high. It was early in the first game when our overly keen goalie Miss Rice put her body on the line to stop a cracking goal and took a ball to the face, forcing the usually energised Miss Rice onto the bench for injury time. Mrs Luzon and Mrs Cotter defended with their usual strength and determination, while Mrs Gill took every opportunity she got to test the opposition's goalie with shots. It was pleasing to see Miss Rice make a comeback to the field after icing a sore jaw.
While the Stars may not have had a win in either game, the scoreline did not reflect the teamwork, skill and enjoyment levels had by all.
Tuckshop
