From The Principal
Mothers love us - our tears, our anger, our fears, our defences and our insanity, our joys, our hopes and our defencelessness.
I once asked my mother why she loved me no matter what I did or said. She responded - "Because I do." My grandmother was also a very strong figure and was a significant adult in my childhood through to my early adult years.
To me they were both just total love – wrapped warm and secure around family.
Generally, we grow and become the people we are because of the selflessness, example and infinite depth of love that mothers and grandmothers show us.
There are immeasurable ways to be a mum. No one can be the mum you are - the wonderful, caring mum who is loved for who you are and how you are!
Our perfect model of motherhood is our Eternal Mother Mary. She gave birth to Jesus in total humility in a barn, she supported and encouraged him throughout challenging ministry, loved him and stood beside him as he died on the cross for all of humanity and prayed for his resurrection with a gentle and quiet spirit. Thank-you to all the mums, grand mums, auntie mums and parishioner mums who share their love in so many ways to all of the children, teachers, support staff and other parents at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School.
We hope that you all had a wonderful day last Sunday, filled with laughter, hugs, kisses and cuddles.
Pieta
I'm there in her arms and that makes all the difference.
We are all there, suffering humanity,
Being held in her love - Would that we were aware.
When we choose to love another our love embraces all others.
(Davis, Novel. 1993 "Heart Gone Walkabout")

Tuckshop Volunteer Roster
I hate being the bearer of bad news, but we cannot sustain the provision of tuckshop without a strong volunteer workforce assisting. For the rest of the year all year levels have been rostered on in turn. The roster for classes has been sent home via email. If you are a parent in the rostered year level and can spare a meagre one and a half hours on either Thursday morning or Friday morning, then we ask you to please contact the school urgently. Unfortunately, your younger children are not allowed to be present with you during those hours due to us needing to be WHS compliant.
Our tuckshop desperately needs parents to assist or it will close again, but this time permanently. We are only needing 2 parents per class per day and only three or four times a year. Please give very serious thought to assisting; Debbie from the tuckshop ensures that the day is fun.
If we don’t have volunteers by the Wednesday, we will advise you that tuckshop will be closed on either the Thursday or Friday. I urge you to assist where you can – we need you so that we can maintain this service which many of our families use. This is also a great way to make new friends. We would also welcome with open arms aunties, uncles, grandparents but those people in this group must have a blue card. Please see Kathy in the front office for details of this. Parents don’t need a blue card.
As a matter of urgency please phone the office with your availability.
Also sent home via email is the Induction of Volunteers Booklet which must be read and understood if you intend volunteering your services in any way during 2024, including the tuckshop. Please take 10 minutes out of your day, read the guidelines and fill in the brief survey, acknowledging that you understand your responsibility as a volunteer at St Anne's Catholic Primary School Sarina.
Physical Education Teacher urgently needed | St Anne's is still searching for a P.E. Teacher. The suitably qualified teacher will hold lessons for 4 hours a day on a Tuesday and Wednesday during term time, the set days may be negotiable. If you know of any teachers that you think may be interested in this position, please pass on this information and ask them to contact me to discuss possibilities.
Farewell Mrs Hazel | It is with mixed feelings that we bid farewell this week to Mrs Jess Hazel. Jess has been a long-time staff member of St Anne's, and we will miss her incredible knowledge, amazing abilities and wonderful personality greatly. We are, however, very happy for Jess as she starts her next exciting chapter in life, in an interesting new position. Our love and best wishes to you Jess and please remember that you will always remain a part of our St Anne's family.

National Walk Safely to School Day
Dear St Anne's school community,
This Friday 17 May 2024, we will be participating in:
National Walk Safely to School Day
Now in its 25th year, National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event when all Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
St Anne's students are encouraged to walk safely to school on Friday 17 May 2024. Students participating will receive a sticker upon arrival at school. Some staff will meet participating students at ANZAC Park at 8.10am and will leave the area at 8.15am. Until the moment of leaving, students are in the care of their parents. The route chosen is the safest one where the team of walkers will cross Brandon Street approximately halfway (away from intersections) and then proceed to the crossing near St Anne’s and cross there. Safety of students is always our greatest concern, and we invite as many parents as possible to walk with us.
If you have any questions please see Miss Moloney.

ESTI MYSTERY #9
An ESTI mystery is a fantastic way to engage students at the beginning of the lesson.
Each image invites students to wonder what number is represented by the image. As you work through each ESTI-Mystery, clues will appear that will allow the students to use math concepts to narrow the set of possibilities to a small set of numbers.
Have a chat with your child and discuss the possible answers to the below ESTI Mystery.

DRUMROLL PLEASE.....
The answer is 53 objects!
YEAR 6 LEADERSHIP DAY
On Friday 26th of April, the Year 6 students participated in a Leadership Retreat Day. The main aim for the retreat day was to develop teamwork skills, encourage students to identify their individual giftedness, hopes and potential to God, and ask God for help to use these gifts as best we can, so that we can help others.
Students participated in many games and activities - all of which involved teamwork skills. There was time for silent prayer and reflection. To conclude the day, students wrote a letter to themselves for the end of the year. The letters are kept safely in a special box and will be opened by the students during a retreat day in Term 4.
Thank you to all the Year 6 students involved, it was wonderful to see you participating and talking about how you can make a difference at our school. You are great leaders!

Sports News
Netball:
St Anne’s Firebirds played against Koumala Krusaders on Thursday. It was a good game and the Firebirds won by 5 to 4. The Firebirds continue to improve each week. It is pleasing to see them show up every week with such excitement and energy.
St Anne’s Spirals had a bye, so they did not need to play.
Soccer:
After a week off due to rain, the Stars were eager to take the field this week. Well rested they took the field to verse Soccer Mums. After a slow first half from both sides with no goals, the second half was way more exciting. Our combination of Mrs Cotter and Mrs Luzon in the backline ensured we had multiple opportunities to obtain the ball and bring it into our own half. Mrs Cotter’s right boot packed a powerful punch keeping the opposition on their toes. Twinkle toes Jazzy, zipped around the defence time and time again, proving that she is a force to be reckoned with. Miss Rice had the catch of the day saving a goal by a finger. Mrs Gill had several shots on goal but didn't manage to get one this week, but if enthusiasm counted for goals, we would have won 100-0 thanks to Mrs Gill. Despite the height differences between the two teams, the Stars managed to attack the ball with gusto and commitment. It was pure skill and talent from Ms Moloney and Ruby who both managed to get the ball to the back of the net, taking the Stars to a 2-1 victory. The Stars proved they know how to handle the ball.
Tuckshop
If you order Tuckshop for your child, please remember to still supply fruit for fruit break for that day, as well as second lunch if you only order first lunch Tuckshop.
If you can volunteer to help in the tuckshop from 8:30 -9:30am on Thursday or Friday please ring Debbie Nielsen on ph. 0417 128 428.

Newsletter Report By Hudson |
Firstly I would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped with the Mother’s Day stall, we give our thanks to them.
I have noticed that we have not been waiting for the teacher at playtime, so remember to wait for the teacher then go.
I have also noticed that we have been trying really hard to keep quiet when the bell goes, keep it up.
The last thing I want to talk about is the rubbish around the school, we don’t want to have a dirty school. So try to pick up rubbish even if it is not yours.
P.S I hope you showed your Mum lots of love on Sunday.
