THE POWER OF HOPE
Dear Parents, Carers and students,
The following reflection about life is from Sr Kym, a great support of Catholic education.
I have a great-niece who is an excellent swimmer. Her hope is to swim at the Olympics and given the way she has shaped her daily life; she has a real chance. You can imagine the discipline and choices she and her parents have made and, so far, they are paying off. Even if she doesn’t make it, there are many life skills she is learning along the way. The hope of getting to that standard carries her through the hours of training and many self-denials. Hope helps her face the early mornings, the holidays at meets, the healthy diet and so much more.
What are our hopes? If we have none, no real goal, we shall drift and waste our life and energy filling in time with activities (or in-activities) that make us feel useless or bad. If we have clear goals, we do things to shape our life to fulfill those goals. ‘Be a good parent’ – we then take time with our child/ren, enjoying them. ‘Be a good neighbour’ – we notice and help the people around us. ‘Be healthy’ – we eat well and exercise. It is worth taking time to consider and name our short- and long-term goals and ask ourselves what we are doing to fulfill them.
Our longest-term goal it to come to the happiness of heaven. This Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of the Ascension – that moment when Jesus left this earth and returned to the Father – yet promises to be with us always. This is a mystery hard for us to understand, except that it gives us a hope that can define and refine our lives. Where he has gone, we hope to be. Imagine what you would be like as your best and most loving self, the person you would be in heaven – full of life. You can shape your life now according to that goal, and Jesus has promised to be with you, giving you the strength and wisdom to fulfill it.
Loving God, you know the dreams and goals I have in my life, especially towards my child/ren. Send me your wise and loving Spirit so that I can discern the best ways to put these into practice and have the courage and strength to fulfill them. I ask this in Jesus’ name confident that you will hear them.

Across The Curriculum
Let’s talk about reading…
One of our School Improvement Priorities at St Anne’s is to enhance the learning growth of students in reading. How are we planning to do this? The first step is to increase the reading volume. Links for resources have been attached in previous newsletters, but this is a great image of why reading volume is so important.

ESTI MYSTERY #8
An ESTI mystery is a fantastic way to engage students at the beginning of the lesson.
Each image invites students to wonder what number is represented by the image. As you work through each Esti-Mystery, clues will appear that will allow the students to use math concepts to narrow the set of possibilities to a small set of numbers.
Have a chat with your child and discuss the possible answers to the below ESTI Mystery.

Drum roll please......
The answer is 45 beads.

Student Leadership
Newsletter Report By Lucy | I have been spending a lot of time in the junior playground this past week and it is great to see everyone getting along and playing nicely, keep it up. You may have noticed year 6 students with purple vests on at play time, they are called peer mediators. If you have an issue in the playground, you can go to a peer mediator and they will help you solve the problem.
I have been observing the school grounds and noticed some rubbish. Remember to put your rubbish in the bin. If you see rubbish on the ground, even if it is not yours, please pick it up and put it in the bin to keep our school grounds clean and tidy.
One last reminder, please remember to wear your hat outside. Just because it is cloudy the sun still shines.
