Crazy Sock Day
Thank you to those students who wore Crazy Socks and brought along a gold coin donation for our Soctober fundraising. We raised $126.20 for Catholic Missions. Well done St Anne's!

From The Principal
Grab a cuppa and take some time out and read the verse below.
BE STILL
Time for myself … Why is it that I find it so hard to take time for me? Time to be, rather than to do. Time to think, to talk to God, and most of all to be silent in his presence while he talks to me.
You know how it is Lord! There is always so much to be fitted in. People to be seen … work to be done … obligations to fulfill! It is so difficult to distinguish between the urgent and the important. And often what is urgent elbows its way to the forefront of my day and the important get trampled on in the rush.
Slow me down Lord. Teach me the art of creating islands of stillness, in which I can absorb the beauty of everyday things: clouds, trees, a snatch of music. Prompt me to lift up my heart to you in a moment of thankfulness. Impress upon my mind that there is more to life than packing every moment with activity, and help me to fence in some of my day with quietness. And please talk to me and help me to listen, so that I take your peace rather than my confusion back with me into the hurly-burly world.
To go up alone into the mountain and come back as an ambassador to the work has ever been the method of humanity's best friends.
Evelyn Underhill
To take time out is very important in the balancing of life. The weekends are an opportune time in terms of this - a break from early morning routines, preparing lunches, homework; the list is endless.
Enjoy your time with your children, they are very precious gifts.
Principal's Messages
Students Not Returning to St Anne's in 2024 | If you have children at St Anne's in years Prep to Year 5 and know that your child will not be returning to St Anne's in 2024, can you please let myself or Kathy in the office know as soon as possible, so we can take this into account when planning classes and staffing for next year.

STA FAMILY WELLBEING EXPO – Friday 3 November 2023 | This term we are celebrating St Anne's families by offering an opportunity for quality family time while participating in workshops promoting healthy minds, bodies and connections at our Family Wellbeing Expo. We will be holding a fun family afternoon on Friday 3 November, starting at 1pm with a free sausage sizzle afternoon tea, followed by a chance to participate in four workshops - with sixteen interactive workshops on a variety of topics to choose from on the day.
We would love if you were able to take an early mark on Friday 3 November to come along and participate with your children. Please complete this form - a response is required from all families to ensure that all children have someone to support them on the day and for catering (if parents can't attend, grandparents or uncles/aunts are welcome to come along). Please complete the form; if you are unable to attend also, so that we can place your children with a group to participate in the event.
Woolworths Sarina are very kindly sponsoring us with the Sausage Sizzle and some of the planned activities. We thank them very much for their kindness.
You were all sent the link again yesterday. Here it is again:
https://forms.gle/DioZSh9TocLg6tQw5
Thank you to the 28 families who have already responded. RSVPs will need to be done by this Friday at 11am.
We do look forward to seeing you there!
WORKING BEE | Due to us being unable to secure a Facilities Officer (Grounds Person) we are going to hold a Working Bee with interested parents and staff. Before we plan it could you please respond to the post in Class Dojo if either Saturday afternoons or Sunday afternoons work for you.
SUPPORTER FISHING SHIRTS | Our Supporter Fishing Shirts are available for purchase from Flexi Schools. It would be amazing to see a sea of these shirts at our upcoming swimming carnival. Please consider purchasing one.

SCHOOL DISCO | The preferred method of paying the admission fee for our disco and making your pizza/hotdog selection is via Flexi Schools. If you wish to pay via cash or Eftpos there are also order forms available in the office. You can pay on the night but may not get your first choice or pizza or hotdog.
HELP | We urgently need volunteers in the Tuckshop. We can't offer this service to our students without volunteer assistance. Please ring Kathy in the office and leave your name with her if you are able to assist.

WHITE ELEPHANT STALL | At our upcoming Mission Fair, Prep D are running a White Elephant Stall. Please send in unwanted items and Prep D will sell them. Donations from families across the school would be appreciated.
LAUDATO SI | Our Laudato Si Club is collecting items for Dignity Bags. We are teaching our students that it is important to help not just the environment but others less fortunate than ourselves. If you have items you can donate, we would be extremely grateful. Our goal is to create 5 bags to donate.
Thank you. Mrs Gill

Across The Curriculum
Reading - Making Connections
Making connections in reading is an essential part of engaging students in comprehension. Students make connections to their prior knowledge and in their world, they build a personal connection to reading. Students are more engaged when they are ‘connected’ to a book.
In class, teachers model how to make connections. Over the year levels, students will make the following connections:
- text to self
- text to text
- text to world connections.

PAT Testing
Over the next few weeks, students from years 2-6 will be completing PAT testing in English and Mathematics. PAT tests assess student understaning in mathematics and English. If you have any questions regarding your child's data results for their PAT testing, please email me: shona_gibson@rok.catholic.edu.au and I will be more than happy to explain this data.
Have a fabulous week,
Shona Gibson
